30 Days of Night: Dark Days Update

Info on 30 Days Of Night: Dark Days is finally starting to trickle in. The sequel to the hugely popular 30 Days Of Night was written by Ben Ketai and Steve Niles and based upon Niles’ graphic novel, that’s all we knew before. But now, not only do we now know the list of confirmed cast members, but we have also been given one photo from the upcoming flick. Here’s hoping to moviemakers will give us more to chew on soon, because this sure isn‘t much.
The photo you see on your left (click for full size) is actress Kiele Sanchez, who has landed the role as the new Stella Oleson, taking over where the original Stella, Melissa George, left off.
The rest of the cast consists of Diora Baird (Night Of The Demons), Rhys Coiro (Straw Dogs), Harold Perrineau, Troy Ruptash, Jackson Berlin, John De Santis, Marco Sorian and Katherine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps, Freddy Vs Jason) and Mia Kirshner (playing vampire Lilith).
If you’re a fan of the Dark Days graphic novel, Steve Niles did chat a little about the movie in an interview with Shocktillyoudrop.com. They asked him about the changes needed to make the graphic novel work as a movie, he said, “Well, the first thing, I have a scene where there’s a plane and with everybody dead on a tarmac from the vampire attack. And Guillermo Del Toro just did it in ‘The Strain’ [novel], which is going to wind up on the screen and I thought, ‘Okay, skip that.’ We’re going to be accused of stealing it from them or vice versa. It’s a big set piece in the novel, so we had to lose that and little adjustments like that. Also, the one character Judith, who’s the woman, we lost her and she had to be replaced with somebody else. I’d say there’s about as many changes as there were from the first graphic novel to the first movie, but not as drastic. We’ll get a lot more of the vampire lore. This is the arc that introduces us a friendly version of those creature things. That was one of the challenges, how do we make one of these guys even remotely sympathetic? It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
