There are many species of vampires out there, countless myths from country to country. There are also many theories and explanations as to what a vampire is or why a certain event has happened. Astral vampires are one of many theories.
We’ll start off explaining the astral body. An astral body is the name given by spiritualists or occultists and it is the energy that separates itself from the psychical form but still maintains the personality and feelings of the individual. It is essentially, an exact replica of a person but without the physical body (think of an out of body experience, looking down at your body).
The astral body is believed by some to survive long after the death of a person, the death of the psychical body. Supposedly the astral body can linger in our material world and become a ghost, apparition or in some rare circumstances, a vampire (but not your average Dracula-like vampire). There are said to be some wicked beings in the astral plane able to take over someone else’s astral body and force them to do vampire-like acts. It is also believed that users of dark magic can call upon these evil beings and bring them into the material world.
There is also the theory that a strong enough being from the astral plane can posses another person or a corpse and animate it. This created vampire then feeds the spirit within the blood. A supernaturalist named Adolphe d’Assier (born in the 1800s) had a different theory. He believed that all vampires were astral creatures, that they traveled about, drank blood and then somehow got that blood back to their body in their coffin. This particular theory fits in with the old timey Church belief that vampires were demons possessing a body of an evil sinner that had returned from the dead.
And there you have it readers. Yet another theory to add to the vampire theory and myth pile.
