Bad news for Twilight Fans: TwiCon has been Cancelled

As mentioned previously on Vampires.Com, the Twilight convention, also known as TwiCon was scheduled to be held this summer in Ottawa Canada from June 25 to 27. Sadly this is no longer the case as it has been reported that TwiCon has been cancelled.
According to The Ottawa Citizen:
The Twilight-themed TwiCon, which was moved to Ottawa from Toronto in February after it was bumped by the G20 summit, quietly folded earlier this month. An online letter to those who registered for the event says they must submit their claims for reimbursement to the North Carolina-based management company.
The statement posted on the official TwiCon website reads as followed:
March 13, 2010 – After much thought, deliberation and best intentions to survive, TwiCon Partners LLC has made the difficult decision to cease operations. Competitive pressures, coupled with the persistent nature of the economic downturn, have necessitated this action. Both of the scheduled 2010 TwiCon events have been cancelled as a result of today’s decision.
Ticketholders will receive a formal notice from TwiCon with instructions at the address listed in their ticket purchase information.
The staff at TwiCon worked very hard to make the events a success and TwiCon would like to thank everyone for their support. This decision was not an easy one and we apologize sincerely for the inconvenience.
We have established a process by which claims will be handled. If you believe you qualify to make a claim and have not received your claim letter, please send an E-mail with the relevant information to info@twicon.org. All claims must be received by April 18, 2010.
Thank you for the support and may the love of all things vampire continue to bring us all together.
Regards,
TwiCon Partners, LLC
The first Twilight Convention which was held last year in Dallas Texas had attracted an estimated 3000 Twilight fans and it was believed that this years TwiCon in Ottawa may have had the potential to attract at least 1200.
New Moon‘s Tinsel Korey (Emily) and True Blood’s Joe Manganiello (Alcide Herveaux) and Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte) had already been confirmed for the event.

I love how they say ‘if you think you qualify’.
Um, if they paid money for an advance ticket, they should qualify for a refund. Sounds like TwiCon is going to try to take the money & run.
No surprise there.
