Bram Stoker’s Death Ship
A long while back I wrote about The Last Voyage of the Demeter, an upcoming film which tells the dark and bloodied tale of the dreaded ship in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Since I haven’t heard anything on the project I thought I’d look into it and see if there’s anything new to report, but unfortunately the only bit of new info is that Jude Law has been cast in the movie, that’s it. However, while looking for news I did discover something awesome – a comic! A graphic novel titled Bram Stoker’s Death Ship: The Last Voyage of the Demeter was published last year by IDW and since it has the same exact title and description as the film I think it’s safe to assume the two are connected to one another.
“An untold story from Dracula, the greatest vampire story ever written, Bram Stoker’s Death Ship explores the harrowing, nightmarish sea voyage from Transylvania to England. One by one, the terrified crewmembers of the Russian schooner Demeter vanish, victims of the unearthly life form that lies comatose in the ship’s hold during daylight hours. Only Demeter’s seasoned captain, a proud man of the sea, remains to confront the voracious monster that has preyed upon his crew by moonlight…”
The 104 page comic was written by Gary Gerani, with inside art done by Stuart Sayger and cover art by Cliff Nielsen.
“This book is a really creepy,” commented IDW Senior Editor, Bob Schreck. “If you love the Bram Stoker original, you’re absolutely going to love this comic book series, as both Gary and Stuart worked very hard to capture that sense of dread in the pit of your stomach and stark raving mind-shattering fear.”
It’s strange how both the comic and the film are identical, yet there’s no news tying to two together. Weird. Either way, they sound awesome. I’ll definitely be checking out this comic and I’ll be watching the film the moment it’s in theaters.
What do you guys think? Will you be checking out either of them?
