Bring on the Brides!

Everything about this show sound very un-horrific, but I thought we’d mention it here in case there are any of you out there that love the Brides…

I despise network television. It is largely a lobotomized wasteland, where nothing succeeds except for lame, scripted “reality” shows, hospital dramas, and knock-offs of “American Idol.” (Aren’t there about twenty singing competition shows on the air currently?) There are a few exceptions, but usually when you get a show that appeals to a geek like me, its ratings aren’t high enough—and a program’s ratings have to be ridiculously high to be considered a success on the mainstream networks—to warrant it lasting. NBC’s recent reinterpretation of DRACULA is a perfect example. Not a perfect show, but intriguing enough to keep me watching. And of course they cancelled it.

Now the geniuses at NBC plan to give us a show centering on Dracula’s BRIDES. As much as I’d love to get excited, I know there is no guarantee the show will be worth watching. And I know the networks, and the American viewing public, well enough to know the series won’t be around for long, whether it’s good or not. The best I can hope for is to enjoy it while it lasts. The masses, necessary to make such a show a hit, are largely tasteless asses.
