‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Now Available on Blu-ray

As the title above says, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is now on blu-ray, but unfortunately it’s not the wonderful show (that I am psychotically obsessed with), but the original Buffy movie. Yup, the 1992 Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie was just released on blu-ray and with it comes a few extra goodies for the fans.

Here are the full details:

“Blonde, bouncy Buffy (Kristy Swanson) is your typical high school cheerleader– her goal is to “marry Christian Slater and die” and nothing gets in her way when it’s time to shop. But all that changes when a strange man (Donald Sutherland) informs her she’s been chosen by fate to kill vampires. With the help of a romantic rebel (Luke Perry), Buffy is soon spending school nights protecting L.A. from Lothos, the Vampire King (Rutger Hauer), his sidekick. Lefty (Paul Ruebens) and their determined gang of bloodsuckers. It’s everything you’d expect from a teen queen in the Valley.”

Special Features:

  • Blu-ray Theatrical Feature
  • Featurette
  • Theatrical Trailer
  • TV Spots

And there you have it! So, who here is picking up a copy of the Buffy blu-ray? Actually, better question – who here even likes this movie? I don’t think I have ever known anyone that enjoyed this film. But then I don’t actually run around yelling “DID YOU LIKE THE BUFFY MOVIE!?!?” That would be awkward. Hm, maybe there are so fans out there.

Anyway, I have to say that I’ll be passing this one. I never liked this movie. I watched part of it and couldn’t bring myself to finish it. The show however, I LOVE the show. But then the show fit creator Joss Whedon’s vision, unlike the movie which was so warped by others that Joss walked of the film set and never returned. So yeah, I won’t be picking up a copy of this any time ever.

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  2. The 1992 Buffy movie squandered the talents of Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens and (gasp!) Rutger Hauer. The Blu-Ray was probably only released to “piggyback” on the non-Whedon movie reboot in the near future.

Alas, this is only the second-worst vampire-film Blu-Ray ever issued, because #1 is the original U.S. issue of “Let The Right One In” with the dumbed-down subtitles. Dumbing down a brilliant film is a far worse affront than issuing a bad film straight-up.
