Lets face it, with all the whiny, kissy face vampire movies currently out there we are in serious need of a badass vampire flick. Horror, action, a thought provoking plot… actors that can actually act all sound good right about now. From the looks of the trailer of the new vampire film Daybreakers written and directed by Peter and Michael Spierig we may get all the those things and much more.
The film stars excellent actors such as Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe and Sam Neill in a sci-fi vampire story about a plague striking in the year 2019. The plague turning the majority of the world’s population into vampires, very hungry vampires. With most of the world being vampires this causes a major problem when it comes to feeding and surviving. The remaining humans are forced into hiding as the vampires hunt down what is left of their food source in attempt to farm the blood to keep from starvation. But the human’s end is near and in return so is the vampire’s.
Daybreakers follows Ethan Hawke’s character Edward (wonder if that name choice was done on purpose haha) as he and others attempt to save the humans from extinction as well as saving the vampires from themselves. Whether it be a new food source or a “cure” we’ll have to wait and see.
This movie takes out the romance and innocence of recent vampire films and instead shows how horrifying a real vampire story can be. Making you think “what if, what if vampires went from small and mysterious to taking over our world and existence” rather than “awwwwww that’s SO sweet.” Hopefully Daybreakers lives up to all the hype it is getting. The trailer already causing a storm of excited would be fans (myself included).
Check out the trailer…
Daybreakers will hit theaters January 8th, 2010
Edit: Corrected the Daybreakers date from 2009 to 2010. Thanks Owen.

Daybreakers: Putting the Scary Back Into Vampires – http://bit.ly/jZ5XK
Love Defoe, but i am quite disapointed : I still miss the old fashion movies where one doesn’t try to EXPLAIN scientifically the mystery… I think vampires are more exciting when they just exist, whithout any other reason than…. they con be scary.
“can” be scary, of course. By the way, great site!
Ooooo I can hardly wait have been a horror and vamp fan since childhood this movie looks like its gonna cover both even though im 40 it gets better and better.
There is an error here. Your site states the release date as 8th Jan, 2009. Should be 2010…
Wow this might give people a new way to look at vampires. I cant wait to watch it! Im pretty sure this is the perfect movie for me and my friends to see…in 2010. :)
