Dead Teenager Resurrects!

Sounds like the headline for a tabloid, doesn’t it? I figure that’s fitting, as the story is almost assuredly bogus. It has the ring of the urban legend to it. I’m not so much interested in debunking it or verifying it, though, as capitalizing on it. Yes, I confess. It’s interesting and I can make some hay out of it. Telling you all it’s likely a phony story satisfies my desire to maintain my veneer of journalistic integrity. Beyond that, if you desire investigative reporting, you’re on your own. I’m just here to keep you all entertained.

In that spirit, then, allow me to sing the song of one Kumar Marewad, a teenager from India, who died after developing an infection from a dog bite. I mean, he must have died. His family said he was dead. They loaded him up and carted him off for burial. On his way to the graveyard, he came back to life. Rushed back to the hospital, doctors diagnosed Kumar as suffering from a case of “meningoencephalitis, an infection caused due to dog bite.” I’ll go high-road here and not poke fun at their flawed English. Instead I will ask the question, Didn’t they already KNOW that’s what was wrong with him?! That’s what they diagnosed him with BEFORE he died! Said the revenant’s parents: “[We] need support for his treatment.” Hmmm. Might that story of his miraculous return from death not be a convenient way to gain publicity for that desired “support?”
