Christopher Lee, the British actor famed for his turns as Dracula, a Bond villain and as the wizard Saruman in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, has died.
Lugosi. Karloff. Lon Chaney. Vincent Price. Peter Cushing. Lon Chaney, Jr. The list of names conjured to mind when any self-respecting Horror fan hears the word “legend” is a short one. It is an august, select company. Up until this past week, only ONE name on that list belonged to a man still with us, still gracing us with his talent, his art. No longer. The list is complete now. Sir Christopher Lee has died. There are no more living legends. There never will be again.
Christopher Lee, throughout a career spanning decades and hundreds of movies, has bequeathed to us an unending legacy, one of consummate professionalism and personal class. But, while it could be said that Lee, at 93, lived to a “ripe old age,” still he was taken from us too soon. We will not hear that powerful, chilling voice of his again, save in recordings. In our movies, he will, like the character with whom his name shall always be intertwined, remain forever young. Like Dracula, he will never die. He will return again and again in our fondest nightmares. Yet we grieve, all the same. Goodbye, Sir Christopher. Thank you for the memories. Until we meet beyond the veil…
Great post. Always loved Christopher Lee. Have all the Hammer Horror on the hard drive. Loved those older horror movies!
RIP Christopher Lee
