Get Well, Anne Rice

Y’all don’t really need for me to tell you who Anne Rice is, do you? If you do, you’re probably on the wrong website, anyway. Get outta here before your parents realize you’re surfing sites you shouldn’t oughtta be. For the rest of us, this week brings news that Ms. Rice has been ill. You, like myself, have probably noticed that she’s been notably absent from the cybersphere for a while now. Turns out she’s been battling two nasty little diseases, shingles and Bell’s palsy. I’ve never heard of anyone dying from either, but I’ve heard plenty about how painful shingles is. Anne says that it has had her sidelined for three months, and I’ve heard of even worse cases than that. Anybody who’s ever had chicken pox is in danger of developing shingles. Fortunately there are vaccines now available.

Bell’s palsy in many ways mimics a stroke. It paralyzes a person’s face muscles. No one is certain what causes Bell’s palsy, although it is believed to be neurological in nature, as is shingles, and in fact the two conditions have been linked. Bell’s palsy tends to clear up on its own, while medicines can shorten the duration of a bout of shingles. Primary treatment involves pain management. Anne makes it sound as if she is on the mend from both maladies, and that’s good news. Mend quickly, Ms. Rice!
