Interview with the Author (and Victim) of HAINT BLUE

You may remember my review of the book HAINT BLUE, and my promise to conduct an interview with one or more of the authors of that book. This week I’m finally making good on that promise. Follow the link to read the review first, to familiarize, or re-familiarize, yourselves with the story, then come on back here to read the following interview I conducted with co-author of the book, and the lady who actually experienced the haunting firsthand, Ms. Jenny B. Scott.

CHEEZMAN: Let’s get this one out of the way. What do you say to those who might suggest the whole thing is a hoax, an elaborate scam to make money?

SCOTT: I would say that I know it’s an unusual story, but I assure you, it was not ever an attempt to make money. I didn’t want to tell anyone about what happened to our family at first, but with Kim’s help, and the kind people with Paranormal Witness, I was able to finally reach a point where I felt comfortable talking about it. Kim and I decided to write the book because I felt the story needed to be told in detail for clarification. Now that that’s done…I’ve felt like a weight has been lifted. It was a relief to be able to talk about it.

CHEEZMAN: I know you can’t reveal the exact location of the house where these events took place, but have you heard anything about the house since you moved out? Have you heard anything from the current owners?

SCOTT: I haven’t heard a thing. I keep my distance, and I have happily put all of that behind me. I have heard many people mention that they have experienced strange things in that area of Coosa County, AL….but nothing specific to that house, or that property.

CHEEZMAN: I’m sure you go into it in depth in the upcoming next installment, but you mention in the book that you don’t fully believe the determinations made by the investigators about the two brothers. Do you currently believe anything of what they allegedly uncovered is factual, or do you believe it is all a fabrication contrived by demonic entities to mislead?

SCOTT: Great question….but I still don’t know. I believe Kim’s team is one of the best in the paranormal investigations world, so I know they were as accurate as possible with their assessment. I still have deeply ingrained religious beliefs from my childhood, and I still tend to think that any entity that can push through the “veil” and communicate, must be demonic. The entity could have been lying about its identity for sure. I still don’t know. I try to keep an open mind, though. Since it was my only experience with the paranormal, my knowledge is very limited.

CHEEZMAN: Are you, the two authors, presently in full agreement on what happened at the house, or do you have different ideas about it?

SCOTT: We definitely bounce our ideas back and forth, but there are no definite answers. I think that’s what is so intriguing about the paranormal….there are no definite answers. Sometimes, there are only clues. As a journalist, I want to get to the bottom of things….find the answers. I can’t always do that…and this is what bothered me the most about what happened to us. As someone who is used to investigating and uncovering facts, I could only uncover possible connections….and in doing that, I only had MORE questions! I don’t think Kim and I are in full agreement on every single detail, but it helps to have different perspectives.

CHEEZMAN: Would you move back into the house if it was given to you, free of charge, with no mortgage or other costs?

SCOTT: Absolutely, positively no. I wouldn’t take that house or property if it was given to me. In fact, I wouldn’t even live in the area.

CHEEZMAN: Lastly, is there anything you’d like to say to your readers that you haven’t already?

SCOTT: I would just like to say Thank You for being so supportive. There have only been a couple of Negative Nancys, but for the most part, everyone has been so kind and compassionate. It was difficult for me to break my silence on what happened to us, which was explained in the book. Thank you to everyone for their kind words and support. Anyone who has lived through a paranormal experience like ours knows how difficult it can be, not just while experiencing it, but AFTER it’s all over. It has helped me a great deal emotionally to tell our story, and I thank everyone for supporting me and allowing me to do that.
