Most-Anticipated Vampire Movies of 2012

We’ve got quite a few vampire films coming out this 2012, some of them are small indie films, but a surprising amount are huge, long-awaited, blockbusters. Here’s a look at the big vampire films fans can’t wait to see this year.
UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING
At long last Kate Beckinsale is returning for the fourth installment of one of our most beloved franchises. Judging by the trailer, this film is going to be all kinds of awesome
Plot description: When human forces discover the existence of the Vampire and Lycan clans, a war to eradicate both species commences. The vampire warrioress Selene leads the battle against humankind.
Release date: January 20, 2012.
DARK SHADOWS
Directed by Tim Burton and staring Burton favorites Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.
Plot description: A gothic-horror tale centering on the life of vampire Barnabas Collins and his run-ins with various monsters, witches, werewolves and ghosts. Based on the cult TV series.
Release date: May 11, 2012.
No trailer currently available, so here’s a promo picture:
ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER
As one of my favorite books last year, I can’t wait to see this film this year! This film has so many huge names behind it that there’s no doubt in my mind that it’s going to be incredibly well done. Both the book and screenplay were written by the fantastic Seth Grahame-Smith, it’s being directed by Timur Bekmambetov who also directed Wanted (a fave of mine) and Tim Burton is producing.
Plot description: President Lincoln's mother is killed by a supernatural creature, which fuels his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers.
Release date: June 22, 2012
No trailer currently available, so here’s a promo picture:

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN - PART 2
The Twilight Saga is coming to an end with the final film in the franchise (or so they say). Picking up where the first part left off, this film is sure to be bitter sweet for the fans.
Plot description: After the birth of Renesmee, the Cullens gather other vampire clans in order to protect the child from a false allegation that puts the family in front of the Volturi.
Release date: November 16, 2012
No trailer or Part 2 promo pictures currently available, so here’s an old promo picture:
That covers all of the BIG vampire releases this coming year. Which one are you most excited for? I can’t choose, it’s a close tie between Underworld: Awakening and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

I’ll see them all on their first day, but for Underworld:Awakening I’ll be first in line.
At long last Kate Beckinsale is returning
Oh, how I longed for Selene when I first watched “Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans” (which is actually a very good prequel).
What about Dario Argento’s DRACULA?
I just went with the really big films of the year. There are loads of smaller ones too, but I figured I’d just cover the major blockbuster type movies :)
Encore! Encore! We need more vampire movies!
How about castle Transylvania
Hotel* not Castle
For some reason I thought that one came out in 2013 since news on it was just released. But it turns out it does come out this year, my bad.
BD2, but followed closely by Underworld: Awakening. More vampire sci-fi (including future and alternative history) is a good thing – The Breed, Perfect Creature, Daybreakers etc. The Underworld series deserves credit for doing very something different with each film. Rise of the Lycans proved that the franchise is still vital.
Love Underworld so would have to make that my number one choice.
Looking foward to seeing all those films EXCEPT for Breaking Dawn Part 2…will not be watching that pile of crap!!! Well, one good thing will come out of that….Twilight will finally be over and we will stop hearing about it all the time and seeing it everywhere.
Just for completeness’ sake, I will also point out “Voyage of the Demeter” and “The Moth Diaries” and “Styria” as well as “Byzantium” should all end up made or distributed this year as well! :)
The Voyage of Demeter is slated to be released in 2013.
The Moth Diaries premiered in 2011, so that film doesn’t count for 2012.
Styria is a small film and not a big time highly-anticipated film like the ones I was going for. The same goes for Byzantium. They won’t be making millions at the box office like Breaking Dawn or Underworld.
As I said, yes, there are loads of vampire films being released this year, this post is only covering the BIG ones people have been waiting for for ages. I was only covering the most-anticipated huge films of the year. I’ll give the smaller films love in the future, but this particular post is for the big game. :)
