When I come across a good vampire film, much less a GREAT vampire film, I consider it my responsibility to publicize it. Let’s face it, movie studios don’t give a rip about the artistic quality of their products. They care only about turning a profit. If mediocre movies make lots of dough, then mediocre movies is what they will continue to produce, and, sadly, mediocrity does sell. Mediocrity often rules the box office. If we want quality films, we have to show the studios that quality films will also make money, that it is in their best financial interests to make quality movies. That’s why I encourage all of you to watch ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE and then do what I’m doing. Talk it up. WE need more movies like this one.
I will caution the jump-scare/short-attention-span sort of fans that this isn’t that kind of picture. It’s slow, deliberate, methodical. There isn’t a lot of blood, and it isn’t overtly scary. In fact the only reason it can be classified as a Horror movie is because it involves vampires. But as far as movies featuring those fanged denizens of the night, it ranks among the best ever made. The acting from leads Tilda Swinton and Tom “Loki” Hiddleston is Oscar-worthy, and the film is beautiful, haunting, and eloquent, with lush cinematography and subtle dark humor. Watch it. Now.
I agree, that is a very good film.Everyone in it were excellent.I collect,or watch every vampire movie that i can. This one was great.
One of the all-time best of the genre.
I’m not sure tainted blood would harm a mystical creature, but it certainly wouldn’t benefit them, either. That said, the portrayals are awesome; I wish I could know them.
