Robert Pattinson Chats about Shirtless Scenes, Vampire Contacts & More

With the upcoming release of his new film, Water for Elephants, Robert Pattinson is busy being interviewed on his new venture. He recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss the film, but of course, Twilight came up instead. Robert chatted about Breaking Dawn’s PG 13 rating, his shirtless scenes and the death of his terrible vampire contacts.

Many fans of the Twilight books are worried that the craziness in Breaking Dawn would be toned down for the next two films, but worry not fangirls, Robert put all those fears to rest in the EW interview.

“There’s some interesting and weird stuff going on—very, very, very strange,” he said of the final films, “It’s great. For a big mainstream movie, it’s the most obscure storyline and really outside the box. It’s a horror movie. I’ve seen a few bits, and I just can’t see how it’s going to be PG 13… unless they cut everything out.”

But, mixed in with all of those horrific scenes are a few hot ones too! Robert, who said he got back in shape for Breaking Dawn’s many shirtless scenes, revealed, “Literally one day after my last shirt-off scene I started being all [mimics eating voraciously] nom, nom, nom. And I didn’t realize I had one more [shirt-off] scene, and you can see it in one of them—I’m clearly [exaggeratedly sucks in his stomach and cheeks].”

While Twilight has given Robert uber fame, he is excited to start new ventures. “I literally feel like we’ve been doing it my whole life,” he said with a laugh regarding making the Twilight films.

But what’s the best part about Robert finished Twilight? Not having to wear those vampire contacts anymore.

“Those contacts…My God, I’ll be glad to see the last of those,” he said, “I actually want to get some kind of plastic explosive. I want to reanimate them into something so I can kill them. It’s embarrassing for me—after so many years, it’s still a process every single morning. Everybody else has figured out how to do it, and then there’s two people holding me down because I can’t do it myself.”

Once Breaking Dawn wraps, Robert is back to doing Water for Elephants press tours. When asked about his new projects and if he would ever be interested in starring in another franchise like Twilight or Harry Potter, he admitted he would, but only under certain conditions.

“I would [do another],” he said, “But I’d want to have more input. The only horrible thing about being part of a franchise..well, not horrible..no, it is horrible…is that the bigger and bigger you get, it’s quite difficult to break out of stuff. When you’ve been playing the same part, you can’t suddenly start playing it differently. It takes away a little bit of the creative kind of..urge.”

Sounds like Robert is pretty excited to be finished with Twilight, and understandably so. What do you Twi-hards think? Are you excited about Breaking Dawn and all of the shirtless scenes (sneak peek below)?

  2. It should be awesome! Breaking Dawn is my favorite of the series because the stakes are so high and it’s not afraid to, as they say, “go there.” There is some true horror in that book. But I think the most intense part is not the gore so much as the events leading up to that: the changing dynamic between Edward, Jacob, and Bella regarding their feelings about the pregnancy. Pretty heavy stuff.
