It’s a Busy Weekend Ahead!

Oh, thank goodness. I was worried that I would have to be staying up way past my bedtime tomorrow night, waiting for the sale of New Moon, which FYI officially goes on sale at many retail outlets and video stores at 12:01AM Saturday, March 20, 2010 . Or as we all know it, Friday at midnight. And while the stores can’t sell the movie one minute before then, they are staying open just so that the biggest fans can get their hands on it as soon as possible. But, we’ve found out that you can do one better than that even. Stay at home, in your PJs, with that remote in your hot little hands. Then settle back and get ready for the whole New Moonexperience!

It’s all made possible by Rogers and their On Demand service. On Saturday morning at 12:01AM, Rogers Digital customers can flip to Channel 100 and order the movie. And if I remember correctly, being a Rogers Digital customer, the movie is then yours to watch over and over again for the next 24 hours. Sure, you’ll want to go out and grab a copy anyway just to have one of your very own, but you’ll be able to take the edge by watching it a few times before you actually get a copy. But when you do have the hard copy of New Moon in your hands, there are a few things you’ll have to look forward to.

The DVD of the latest movie in the saga includes a commentary from director, Chris Weitz, plus a whole six-part series of just the making of the film. And of course, because after Saturday we’ll officially be in Eclipse-mania, there’s a little sneak peek of what’s to come in the newest movie for us too. Well, I guess I know what I’ll be doing on Saturday; watching New Moon on Rogers to start, and on Sunday, maybe going out to grab the DVD. Have a great weekend all!

True Blood Sunday Presents: True Blood Crashes Twilight’s Vampire Baseball Game!

A few months ago we filled you Twilight fans in on the big charity baseball game featuring your favorite Hollywood vamps, but it looks like there has been a big change in the lineup.

Recent reports say that Twilight’s Peter Facinelli, who plays the sexy vampire father figure in the series, will no longer be part of the big game. Sorry Twilight fans, but Nelsan Ellis, the amazing man that plays the fabulous fry cook, Lafayette, in True Blood, has taken Peter’s place in the charity Vampire Baseball game in New Orleans on Saturday, March 20.

Facinelli, who plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen, was originally signed on, but he’s no longer on the roster. But don’t worry guys, you still have the wolf pack playing in the game – Chaske Spencer who plays alpha-wolf Sam, Alex Meraz who plays Paul and Tyson Houseman who plays Quil. Daniel Cudmore, who plays Felix, is the only vampire left though. So really, it’s turning into more of a werewolf charity than a vampire one.

While this news may bum out the Twilight lovers, especially the ones that already bought their tickets, this is awesome news for the True Blood fans out there. We get to see one of our favorite characters do a good thing for people that really need help. Kudos Nelsan Ellis.

Eclipse Trailer Has Finally Been Released!

Yay!!! In anticipation for its June 30th release, the trailer for Eclipse has finally been released! Come on, we’ve all been waiting for this ever since we saw New Moon in November, haven’t we? The trailer looks very, very good and looks like the director and producers are going to include the main elements of the book – including the love triangle between Bella, Edward, and Jacob that shows itself more than ever in this part of the series, the Volturi’s anger that Bella has not yet been changed, and of course, the fact that that evil villain vampire, Victoria is still on the loose and is out for Bella’s blood.

There are a few things that you may notice from the trailer, besides the fact that Eclipse looks like it’s going to be even better than the book (because Eclipse was actually my least favorite in the series.) One is that Bella’s hair may seem to look…different. It’s not bad but there does seem to be a slight difference in her appearance. This is because after filming New Moon, Kristen Stewart filmed the movie The Runaways where she plays rocker girl Joan Jett. For the part, Kristen was forced to chop off all of her luscious brown locks and go for a much shorter and funkier ‘do. But because director David Slade, and the rest of us, wanted to maintain Bella’s look for the third movie, she wore a wig.

The role of Victoria is also a different Victoria than the one we saw in Twilight. That Victoria was played by Rachelle Lefevre, who was unavailable to reprise the role for Eclipse. Victoria will now be played by Bryce Dallas Howard, who has expressed before what an amazing job she thought Rachelle did and that she was extremely surprised that Rachelle wouldn’t take on the role once again. So are we, Bryce, so are we. But I’m sure Bryce will work just fine as the evil villain.

I am so excited that the trailer has come out! That must mean that the movie is soon on the way right? Oh wait. It’s still three and a half months until that happens. Oh pooh. Well, in the meantime, enjoy the trailer! You can watch it here!

TwiCon Coming to Ottawa, Canada!

As a resident of Ottawa, and a huge, huge fan of Twilight, I couldn’t be more excited to announce that TwiCon, the annual Twilight convention, is coming to Canada!! Not only to Canada, but to my very own city, Ottawa! The event was originally scheduled to be held in Toronto this summer but, because of the G20 Summit (and because let’s face it, Toronto already gets enough of the good stuff), it’s been moved to the nation’s capital!

TwiCon has actually only happened once before and that was last year in Dallas, Texas when 3,000 people – mostly screaming teenage girls with Rob Pattinson in their eyes – showed up. They’re estimating that only 1,200 people will show up at Ottawa’s event but I bet we see a lot more. Once again, Canada is underestimated. But I really don’t care how many people come because I know for certain that I will be there!

TwiCon will be held from June 25 – June 27 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and Tinsel Korey, who plays Emily in New Moon will be there to sign autographs and meet fans. But if you’re not into Twilight but love other on-screen vamps, you’ll be happy to hear that Sam Trammell, who plays Sam in True Blood; and Joe Manganiello, who will soon join the series as the leader of the wolf pack, will also be there, in case you want to get into a debate about why vamps are better than wolves.

In addition to the big stars that you’ll see, you can also look forward to taking part in Bella’s self-defense course, tons of vendors that are ready to sell you anything and everything related to our favorite fanged friends, a masked ball, and a dinner with the stars! Tickets are steep, at $179, but really, isn’t that a small price to pay for just how truly awesome this convention sounds? I know I’ll be there for sure! Besides, who knows the next time that TwiCon will come to Canada?

Vampire Baseball: Cajun Style

For those that think that this whole vampire sub-culture is all poo poo, and we’re all wasting our time, we can now say that it’s actually going towards good that no one can deny is anything but helpful. Stars from Twilight and New Moon have recently joined the long list of celebrities who want to help with the Haiti relief and they’ve done it in one of the most fun ways!

The event is Vampire Baseball: Cajun Style and this is a star-studded event not to miss! Twilight and New Moon stars include: Peter Facinelli, who of course plays Carlisle Cullen; Chaske Spencer, who plays smelly Alpha wolf Sam Uley, and Alex Meraz, who plays fellow stinky dog, Paul. Amongst this lineup are many other stars from the movie as well as some favorite Louisiana stars such as Kyle Eckel and Lynell Hamilton, both who play for the New Orleans Saints.

The event will be held on March 20, 2010 and it will be a vampire baseball game like no other held in Zephyr Field in the great state of Louisiana. Not only will you be able to see your favorite stars duke it out for the title of winner of Cajun Vampire Baseball, but you’ll also be able to meet the stars, get autographs, and maybe even sit and have a chat with Carlisle himself. And of course, to stay in the true vampire theme, the event will also be the platform for a blood drive – so make sure to wear short sleeves and to give as much as you can!

Tickets are $25 and they’re available at various places online. Fan Trips is one place where tickets are still available. But it’s quickly selling out so make sure to get your tickets soon if you really want to go check it out. And oh yeah, it’s all for charity too! All the blood and money donated will go towards helping Haitian victims through various charities. Cool deal!

New Moon DVD Release Date Announced!

Just when you thought the whole New Moon madness was over, they go and announce the date of the DVD release! Of course, I’m excited since I’m a Twilight fanatic but for all of you haters out there, you’ll have to put up with it for a couple of more months. The New Moon DVD isn’t set to be released until March 20. But what’s the big deal? We’ve all already seen it, right? Yeah, probably. At least all of us who really care. But there are some things you’ll get with the DVD that you can’t when you go to see the movie. This DVD comes loaded with features!

Just like Catherine Hardwicke did with the Twilight DVD release, director of New Moon, Chris Weitz will also include a commentary, which is sure to give us lots of inside secrets on making the movie. And if you need even more New Moon information, there’s also an entire six part documentary on taking the film from the written page to the silver screen. The musical group, The Muse also includes rehearsal footage and if you’re dying for even more music from the movie, there’s also music videos from Death Cab for Cutie, Anya Marina, and Mute Math. And of course, there’s tons more that none of us will know about until we actually buy the DVD. And even though we might not be able to hold it in our hot little hands before March 20, we can order them much sooner than that. Very soon, actually.

You can pre-order New Moon as early as January 26 and there’s rumors that Amazon will be one of the websites that you can do that from, although I imagine the official website would also have an area for you to get your early order in. This is a great idea if you want to make sure that you get a copy ASAP. Or, if you really want to join in the festive fun, you can hang out at one of the release parties being held at 12:01am on March 20. Retailers all across the United States are holding these parties just like they did with the Twilight release. The DVD will cost $32.99 and the special feature Blu-Ray disc only costs a little more at $34.99.

And after the movie’s release, all you haters can breathe a sigh of relief that you won’t have to hear about The Twilight Saga anymore. Well, at least until the next month when the Eclipse mania is sure to start.

And the People Choose…Vampires!!

If the whole vampire craze that has taken over the world wasn’t clear to you before, it certainly should be after last night! It was then that the People’s Choice Awards gave away seven – count em, seven! – awards to movies, TV shows, and music that are all vampire related! Here’s the rundown for you on who won what.

The 36th Annual People’s Choice Awards were handed out on Wednesday night. And while all you Twilight fans might think that each of the seven awards was given to the famous saga, only five of them were. Some may actually say four, but look again and you’ll see that one of those awards probably wouldn’t have been given without the famous movies. So, just what what awards did Twilight win exactly? The first of course, was for “Favorite Movie.” This actually puzzles me a bit because it seems to be that the movie that won was Twilight, which came out in 2008. I would think the award was actually for New Moon, which did come out last year. But what do I know?

But there were a few other awards that the Twilight saga also took home. One was for “Favorite On-Screen Team”, which is obviously the team of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, who play Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black, respectively. Taylor Lautner also took home an award for “Favorite Breakout Movie Actor.” Yes, Taylor does actually play a smelly werewolf in the movies but, who can think of Jacob Black and not think of vampires in the same thought? And of course, for “Favorite Franchise” (seriously, we’re voting on franchises now?), Twilight picked that one up too. So where does the fifth Twilight award come from? It actually went to the band Paramore, for “Favorite Rock Band.” And where did I get the Twilight connection from? Well, no one had heard of Paramore before Twilight and now you can’t hear their breakout song, “Decode” without thinking of Bella’s and Edward’s relationship. And thanks to that song, Paramore ended up on the Billboard charts and on the Hot 100.

So, what other two awards were given out to vamps? Well, it may not shock you to know that Vampire Diariestook home the award for “Favorite New TV Drama”, very deservedly so, and True Blood took home the award for “Favorite TV Obsession.” Also, I think we would all agree, very deservedly so.

So, from last night’s People’s Choice Awards, it’s clear that vamps are here, they’re big, and they’re going to be around for a long while yet!

Fashionable Vampires … or not

Maybe it’s just me being girly but I always love looking at the clothes the designers create for vampires in movies and TV shows. Sometimes they’re absolutely ridiculous, other times they’re damn sexy and sometimes they are brilliant works of art. Here’s a small list of a few vampire looks used throughout the years (check out the full gallery at the bottom).

Béla Lugosi as Dracula (Dracula, 1931)
Dracula’s appearance in this classic film is legendary. This is where we got the slicked back hair and satin cape stereotype that haunts vampires to this day. This movie created a look that has forever left an impression in the minds of everyone.

Tom Cruise as Lestat de Lioncourt (Interview with the Vampire, 1994)
Lestat’s period clothing in this movie was so elegant and beautiful. Not only his but Louis’ and Claudia’s clothing as well. I even loved the laid back big poofy old timey shirts they wore.

Stuart Townsend as Lestat de Lioncourt (Queen of the Damned, 2002)
Stuart’s Lestat was significantly different than Tom Cruise’s version. But the clothes in this movie were … interesting. Since this time around Lestat was a rock star and not an aristocrat there was a whole lot more leather. Leather and mesh.

Kate Beckinsale as Selene (Underworld, 2003)
Ok, now this is a look we all know and know well. How can you forget the skin tight leather body suit? I think Kate just may win the prize for sexiest looking vampire chick thanks to that outfit.

Gary Oldman as Dracula (Dracula, 1992)
Gary definitely sported some unusual looks in this flick. From the old Dracula with the totally weird white rolled up hair and red robe to the younger looking Dracula and those ridiculous sun glasses. If anything it’s memorable.

Evan Rachel Wood as Queen Sophie-Anne Leclerq (True Blood, 2008 – Present)
Her look is one of my top faves. From that gorgeous gown to the bathing suit and sunglasses. The Queen was the epitome of deadly sexiness and classic elegance.

Bill Paxton as Severen (Near Dark, 1987)
There was no satin capes and girly lace for Severen, oh no, it was all biker leather, belt buckles and jeans. Oh and we can’t forget the blood, that was an extra fashion statement – blood, lots of it.

James Marsters as Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 1997-2003)
Oh Spike, sexy sexy Spike. This vamp kept it hot and simple – black on black. You’ve got the black pants, black t-shirt and that kickass black leather trench coat. Although I have to say in all honestly that my favorite look of his was the naked sex scene look. Mmm.

Ashley Greene as Alice Cullen (Twilight, 2008 and New Moon, 2009)
Alice’s style was very modern, yes, but she was an adorable little pixie. Her clothes looked so cute and comfy; I’d love to wear them myself.

The Year of the Vampire

Hello dear readers, today is the first day of the New Year which means just like everyone else we’ll be taking a look at the past year. Exciting!

This past year has for sure been the year of the vampires, no arguments there. Just a quick trip to the store and you can see how far the craze has spread – from the book section where half the books are about vampires, to the clothing section where you have shirts printed with my favorite words, “I Love Vampires,” to jewelry and decorations and …ahhhhh they’re everywhere! Vampires have most defiantly taken over our world.

Taking a look at this past year you find a treasure trove of vampire-y goodness, each feeding into our fang frenzy. Looking at each new vampire addition that has come along it’s hard to pick a favorite from 2009. There are so many! From the growing popularity of the Twilight novels and the massive success of the second movie, New Moon. To the deliciously sexy and addictive show True Blood, whose popularity surpassed everyone’s expectations. Then you have the hit show The Vampire Diaries, which like True Blood surprised everyone with its big ratings. I could go on and on, listing every kickass vampire book, movie and show that came out in 2009, but well, that would take forever. It goes without saying that this was a very VERY good year for vampires.

Looking back at 2009 I wonder what 2010 will hold for us vampire fanatics. Will we continue to see vampires every which way or will the madness die down soon and make way for a new big fad? Maybe it’ll be the year of the werewolves since that is often the pattern. Or even the year of the angels, I hear angels are supposedly big now. Or maybe it will be the year of the Abominable Snowman – picture it, a dramatic tale of star-crossed lovers, fighting for their love in the depths of the snowy mountains, AND THEN just when their picture perfect story falls into place and they are blissfully happy they are…they are… eaten by the Abominable Snowman! The End.

You never know.

Teaser Eclipse Poster!

New Moon isn’t even out of theaters yet and already fans are dying for just a glimpse of the next movie, Eclipse. The poster looks kind of cool, although I was secretly hoping for a blown-up poster of the vampires and werewolves shaking hands (or somehow other showing their signs of newly found brotherhood.) Instead what we get is no pictures of the characters at all but a very dark and sinister looking movie poster. It’s actually kind of perfect for Eclipse, isn’t it, when we get a darker look into the world of non-vegetarian vampires and actual vampire armies that are nothing but blood thirsty? I also love how the poster shows a full moon in an eclipse stage and how the “p” in eclipse looks like a dagger, with little sparkly and twinkling effects on the other letters. And lets not forget those angry clouds either that seem to be rolling right off the page at you.

Along with the teaser poster for the new movie, we also get some new details on this highly-anticipated film. It will be released on June 30, 2010 which means, “Yay!” We don’t have to wait even a year to get the next installment of the saga! And of course there’s the official website too at eclipsethemovie.com, where we can all go to get our fill of everything Eclipse. It’s also just been announced that David Slade will be the director of the film. Now that I think is kind of weird. Catherine Hardwick directed Twilight, Chris Weitz directed New Moon and now another, third director is going to direct the third movie? Doesn’t that sound a little off? Isn’t there something about a constant vision that’s going to get disrupted with a different director for every movie? Meh, maybe it’s just me. And I’m pretty sure that whoever directs any of the movies, they’ll be amazing.

So, what does everyone else think of the new Eclipse movie poster?
