Stephenie Meyer is Interviewed on Oprah

The interview is Stephenie Meyer’s only appearance and discussion over the new film New Moon, –so the Twilight lovers and Meyer fans will just have to wait for the next movie to hear from Stephenie, I guess. Oprah starts by introducing the non-believers to the books, and the films so far. Then, of course! a trailer for the new film, outlining Edward leaving Bella, Jacob moving in as maybe something more than a friend, and Bella following Edward to Europe. Afterwards, we get a more personal look at Stephenie Meyer, and her day-to-day life before she decided to pursue a writing career.

According to Meyer, she got the idea for the novels from a completely spontaneous dream; she dreamed of two people talking in a forest, one of them a “sparkly”, gorgeous boy, the other a girl, totally normal in every way, and the discussion between the new lovers. In her own words, she had just been going through the motions of being a stay-at-home-mom, with no real interest in writing a book, or even in vampires. Then she has this dream, and suddenly wanted to know more about the characters in her dream, so she just began writing more about the characters, filling in their story from Chapter 13 of Twilight, to the end of the book, then going back to the beginning and writing the rest.

It took her over three years to finish the novel, with no prior experience in writing, not even so much as a short story. Stephenie Meyer arrives on stage, accompanied by a roaring crowd, –looking fabulous. Meyer says the dream was a “one of a kind thing” and she never imagined the story would become a series of books, she just didn’t want to forget the story itself. Stephenie had three tiny kids, and worked continuously on notes, and journal entries, organizing everything, and when it was finished, decided to publish it, never imagining the story would have the fame and media attention it does today. It was rejected nine times, and ignored several more, before someone finally answered positively. Well, thank god it didn’t end up on a shelf in her closet! I wonder how many other people have these fabulous stories, floating around their closets and attics, or waiting to come out of their dreams.

Kristen Stewart Says “F**K Off!”

The Twilight super star Kristen Stewart has been getting a lot of love and even more hell from Twilight fans and from magazines. The poor girl just doesn’t get a break from the press, the fangirls and boys and the paparazzi. Sure the woman has fame, financial stability, loving fans and family but at the same time she has no alone time, little freedom and everything in her life is made public.

In an interview from a while back she said that all the attention and fame as made her a bit of a recluse. “I don’t leave my hotel room – literally, I don’t,” she said. “I don’t talk to anybody about my personal life … it’s really important to own what you want to own and keep it to yourself … It depends what mood I’m in. Some nights, I think, “You know what? I don’t care. I’m just going to do what I want to do.” Then the next day I think, “Ugh. Now everyone thinks I’m going out to get the attention.” But it’s like, no, I actually, for a second, thought that maybe I could be like a normal person.”

You gotta feel for the girl, I mean, can you imagine how shitty that would be? To add to it she still has everyone and their mother hounding her on her supposed love affair with Robert Pattinson aka vampire Edward Cullen. In a recent interview about her life and about her romance with Pattinson she joked, “I probably would’ve answered it if people hadn’t made such a big deal about it … I know that people are really funny about ‘Well, you chose to be an actor, why don’t you just f-ing give your whole life away?! Can I have your firstborn child?’”

“I’m just trying to keep something,” she said. “If people started asking me if I was dating Taylor, I’d be like ‘F- off!’ I would answer the exact same way.”

After that interview the silly Robert Pattinson looked at Taylor Lautner and said, “Me too.” Haha.

Unfortunately for her she won’t be living a normal life any time soon, especially with New Moon coming out November 20, 2009.

What’s Your Favorite in the Twilight Saga?

I was watching an interview with Stephenia Meyer on Oprah the other day and of course, she was talking about New Moon’s imminent release. The interview was very interesting as Stephenie spoke about how New Moon was meant to be “the quiet novel” and how the action that occurs at the end was only ever put it in because her mom told her the book was too slow-paced to be really, really interesting. I guess her mom thought that the book needed a little more “pop” at the end and eventually, Stephenie agreed with her. Of course, this got me to thinking about New Moon and how yes, it is a quieter book but, it’s probably also one of my favorites in the series. That got me to thinking, “What is my favorite book in the series?” Funny, I had become so hooked on the story and the characters that I had never asked myself this before. So, which is it?

I’m usually one to go with the “first of anything is the best” mentality. Only because this is where we will find out what the story is really all about. And because it’s usually the most original of any series. But to be honest, I think I’ve seen and read the first Twilight just a few too many times for it to be my favorite. So that leaves the other three. Eclipse was out right away. Not because it’s a bad book. It’s just that nothing really happens in it. We do see more of how torn Bella is between Edward and Jacob but other than that, it’s the same old “vampires fighting vampires” kind of stuff. And of course there’s also the same “Bella and Edward love each other” kind of stuff. So, I guess my choices are now narrowed down to New Moon and Breaking Dawn.

The fact that both of these two books are dynamite is not in question. In New Moon, I loved reading about the legends of the werewolves, where they came from, and of course, Bella’s hallucinations. This is also the first book that we really learn of Jacob’s love for Bella, and there’s something so sweet about that throughout the remaining books that it simply cannot be overlooked. And Stephenie Meyer’s mom was right – the action at the end when the Volturi need to be faced is phenomenal and made me want to duck under the covers at times. But Breaking Dawn is filled with so many unexpected twists and turns that it really is a page-flipper and has things that you just wouldn’t expect. That being said, I think that Breaking Dawn has one of the most predictable endings of any book I’ve ever read. But that doesn’t make it bad, does it?

I think this one goes to Breaking Dawn. As much as I love New Moon, and as excited as I am about the movie, there’s just too much other stuff going on in the last book of the saga. If New Moon was Meyer’s “quiet” book, then Breaking Dawn definitely qualifies as her “noisiest.” With twists and turns happening from the very first page, and so many things going on within every chapter, I think I can overlook the fact that I knew how the book would end before I even read it.

Vampire Baseball or Quidditch?

With New Moon at every turn, I can’t help but think of some of my favorite and not so favorites aspects of the first film Twilight. Although I love just about every scene in that movie, I wasn’t too impressed with the vampire baseball scene. I do like the joke about how it’s the American pastime and the Cullens can only play with rolling thunder behind them but other than that, it doesn’t have much appeal to me. And it got me to thinking the first time I saw Harry Potter play his first Quidditch match. Then I wasn’t knocked off my chair either but it was fun to watch and to read. So as much as every fiber in my being fights against saying anything bad about Twilight, I think I need to give this Twilight vs. Harry Potter match to the wizards.

The one thing Quidditch has against vampire baseball is that it’s completely unique. Yes, it’s said to be like Muggle football in the books but with the number of balls flying through the air, and let’s not forget the fact that the players are all on brooms batting and whizzing around, it’s really a game that J.K. Rowling came up with all on her own. Vampire baseball, on the other hand, is simply a game that anyone can play with the word ‘vampire’ thrown in front of it. And the only rule that seems to be in effect for vampire baseball, other than the traditional rules of baseball, is that they need to play during thunderstorms only. It’s cool to see the Cullens in their superhuman-strength form but it really seems like Stephanie Meyer got stuck on this one and plunged ahead with what little idea she had.

Then again, vampire baseball has the “Cullen” factor. So, doesn’t that really trump just about anything?

New Moon is Promotion Crazy!!

What’s the best thing about one of the greatest movies of all times about to be released? That we get to see our favorite stars doing crazy promotion in order to gear up their fans! Like Twi-tastics need any more reason to go crazy over this movie. Fans can get their fill of the characters Edward, Bella, and Jacob by watching the Early Show November 18 – November 20.

Starting out the lineup is Robert Pattinson, who will appear on the morning show November 18. He really has to be first, doesn’t he? Otherwise all those teenage girls would only hear gibberish whilst searching for signs of their heart-Rob. Next up is Kristen Stewart, who will provide feeder for the hatred fodder she’s got going among those same teenage girls. She shows up on November 19 to do her bit for promo. Then, on the 20th, Taylor Lautner brings up the back of the pack by making his appearance. Why is it that Jacob always has to come in last? But on the other hand, he appears on the day the movie opens so that says a lot for those on Team Jacob!

I can’t even get enough of seeing the preview on television so three mornings of talking Twilight, all in a build up towards seeing the movie, who’s not going to see New Moon on November 20?

‘New Moon’ Soundtrack Rocks

Fun fact about me; I love soundtracks. I will buy soundtracks to movies and shows I have never even seen before just because you usually get awesome music from them, it’s true. In all honesty my favorite part of the first Twilight movie was its soundtrack. You had Paramore’s spine tingling and breathtaking vocals, Mute math’s ‘Spotlight’ which I will totally admit to belting out in my car and then you have the radass Muse, plus a bunch of other amazing artists. It kicked ass, and from the looks of the second Twilight flick, New Moon, its soundtrack does as well.

The soundtrack for New Moon comes out October 20 (preorder it) and I can’t wait. After seeing the excellent track listing I am super excited…

I love that they didn’t go with a bucketfull of mainstream artists, that they gave the smaller guys a shot to shine. From Anya Marina’s stirring lyrics in ‘Satellite Heart’ to the rocking and rad sound of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (check out the song Ain’t No Easy Way) you know this upcoming soundtrack is going to be phenomenal.

To add to the mix of awesome, the New Moon video for Death Cab for Cutie’s song ‘Meet Me On the Equinox’ was recently released and is packed full of movie scenes featuring Bella and the gang. When asked about the song the band’s Nick Harmer replied, “We wrote ‘Meet Me On the Equinox’ to reflect the celestial themes and motifs that run throughout the Twilight series, and we wanted to capture that desperate feeling of endings and beginnings that so strongly affect the main characters.”

… and they did just that. Check it out.

‘New Moon’ Interview and Video

More Twilight news! Yes, even more. Ok, it’s not so much news as it’s just more goodies for fans. MTV recently interviewed Michael Sheen, who plays the Volturi vampire Aro in the upcoming Twilight film, New Moon. MTV also premiered the latest New Moon trailer, which shows even more of the flick. The new trailer gives us a much better look at the Volturi. But first the interview…

MTV: Michael, at MTV News, we’re obsessed with all things “Twilight,” and we recently premiered the new trailer. Have you seen it?

Michael Sheen: Yes, I did see it. I was amazed to see I was in there.

MTV: Have they shown you a cut of the film?

Sheen: No, nothing yet. I’m very excited about seeing it, as most people are — especially with my daughter, who is a big fan. I look forward to going to the premiere with her.

MTV: You must have a whole new fanbase now.

Sheen: I’m very big with the under-12s. They’re very big fans of “Frost/Nixon.”

MTV: Tell us about your character in “New Moon.”

Sheen: I play Aro. For people who aren’t fans of the books, I play one of the Volturi — somebody described it as being like the royal family of vampires, which I guess is a good description. He’s very calming on the surface, very gentle and soft on the surface. But beneath, he is a psychopathic killer. … He’s a great character, and I had a great time doing it.

MTV: When will we see Aro next?

Sheen: Well, he doesn’t appear in “Eclipse.” He appears again in “Breaking Dawn.”

MTV: Have they told you to set aside some time for that one?

Sheen: Who knows? Nothing has been spoken about yet.

MTV: We can also see some teases of a dark Dakota Fanning in the “New Moon” trailer. How is she in the film?

Sheen: She’s fantastic. She’s scary as hell, but she looks so sweet. She’s got a great character there. People are really going to love her.

MTV: You’ve worked with all kinds of actors. But is there anything quite like working with the maelstrom that is Robert Pattinson?

Sheen: [Laughs.] I don’t know how he copes with it all. I certainly wouldn’t have been able to deal with it when I was his age. He and Kristen are really amazing. They’re fully committed to what they’re doing, and I wish them all the best.

MTV: What’s the one “New Moon” scene you’re most excited to see come together?

Sheen: There’s a great scene that involves all of them. Robert, Kristen — Ashley is there as well. All the Volturi are there, and we’re on this amazing set, and there’s a lot of effects and stuff. I think that will be amazing.

Even More Twilight Goodies

…because clearly, we don’t have enough. Can you hear the screams? Those are the fangirl screams of joy mixed in with the hater’s screams of frustration. Onwards…

So it looks as if the already massive Twilight franchise is spreading to the interwebs. Producers Summit Entertainment says it has reached an agreement with website Habbo to feature products and games in its virtual world. Habbo says it is “the largest virtual world for teenagers” and has teamed with Summit in an exclusive partnership to feature games promoting the Twilight films and Twilight-branded goods, which is awesome news for Twilight fans. This deal is set to begin November 20, to go along with the release of the second Twilight film, New Moon.

Habbo has about 13 million registered users in 31 countries, which means lots of potential customers to buy their Twilight themed furniture and an assortment of other Twilight themed accessories. So now you can hit play to the Twilight movie soundtrack, put on your Edward shirt, Jacob themed necklace and Bella’s heart bracelet, then you can jump on your bed and lay on your Twilight printed comforter and hug your Edward pillow, while you stare at the Twilight cast posters on your wall, which is hanging above your brand new Twilight chair, which is on top of your Twilight rug. THEN you can get on your laptop (covered in Twilight stickers, of course) and go and play some Twilight games, then after you are all played-out you can go to your favorite Twilight website and buy the third or fourth edition of the same exact Twilight book you already own, but this edition will have a picture of the cast on it, or maybe it will be a special edition that will come with a Bella and Edward poster and some rub on Twilight tattoos (that way you can have a sweet Jacob Black tramp stamp). After all of that you can head to school donning your Twilight backpack, sit in class writing with your “I Love Edward” printed pencil on your notebook which is plastered with Bella’s face… Ok ok, I think we all get the idea.

Anyway, Habbo’s new virtual world will allow users to interact with other Twilight fans, and include creating Twi-branded rooms, virtual items, activities and polls, the release said.

So Twilight fans rejoice, there is even more to come. Twilight haters, well you can …do nothing, Twilight and its fans will be around for a while and will be everywhere… like Resident Evil and the zombies…but not as cool and without the option of apocalypse to escape.

‘New Moon’ Volturi Vampires Revealed

The second Twilight film, New Moon has been on the minds of all Stephenie Meyer fans. We have already seen the multiple trailers and teasers, cast interviews and posters but what no one has seen yet is images of the book’s not-so-lovable Volturi (the equivalent of a royal family to vampires, they also keep other vamps in check), that is, until now. Finally images of the Volturi have been released (click the name to see picture).

Jane (Dakota Fanning): A tiny, young looking Volturi that has the power to inflict excruciating pain with nothing more than her thoughts. She is of the higher ranks of the Volturi.

Caius (Jamie Campbell Bower): Born in 1000 BC, Caius is a vamprie so old and so pale it looks as if his skin is translucent. His hair is shoulder length and as white as his skin and when he moves it looks as if he is floating. One of the leaders of the Volturi, he wants to destroy Bella and Edward.

Marcus (Christopher Heyerdahl): Marcus is also a vampire turned around 1000 BC, with long jet black hair. Like Caius he also appears to float when he walks. Marcus is very much apathetic in most things. His special power is being able to feel the relationship between two people. So he knows very well what Bella and Edward mean to each other.

Aro (Michael Sheen): This ancient vampire is the founder and leader of the group. His hair is also long and black. He is the history keeper for the Volturi. He also has the power to read someone’s thoughts by only by touching them first. Unfortunately for him this power doesn’t work on Bella for some reason.

Third Twilight Film Begins Shooting

Disclaimer: It has finally come time for me to report the latest Twilight news. I will try to be as unbiased as I can. There is a possibility I may implode before this blog is through. *whimpers slightly*

This is a big week for Twilight fans, for Eclipse, the third movie in the Twilight saga began filming. The shooting began Monday in Vancouver and is projected to wrap up on Halloween. The movie production details are so hush hush that they are using a code name for the film.

But, it appears that code has been broken. For the big time fans out there looking to track down the Eclipse shoot, look for production signs featuring the code “TSE.” When filming New Moon they disguised their location with “USM” which stood for Untitled Sports Movie. Clever, but not clever enough since Twilight fans have been twittering about it like crazy the past few days.

The film making is so secretive that even top Vancouver casting people aren’t getting the locations and call times for actors until hours before.

Music video director David Slade takes over from Chris Weitz for Eclipse as the story of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan continues.

Both Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will of course return for the movie while Bryce Dallas Howard, Jack Huston and Xavier Samuel are among new cast members.

Even though the second movie, New Moon, hasn’t even hit theaters yet, Eclipse already has a US release date of June 30, 2010.

New Moon, the upcoming Twilight film will be in theaters November 20, 2009.
