True Blood Sunday Presents: Real-Life Wolves Used in Season 3

Alan Ball, creator and producer of ‘True Blood,’ fully plans on making season three absolutely fantastic, so much so that he is bringing in real-life wolves to the set so that the animal transformations on the show will be as real as possible.

Stephen Moyer who plays vampire Bill said the upcoming third season’s storyline is packed full of the wild animals. “Yeah!” he told MTV News. “I’ve had to work with wolves. I like werewolves. I love that aspect of the show. It’s going to be amazing this year.”

The actor spoke further about the involvement of the furry beasts. “I’ve been working with real wolves and I mean you don’t get to do that very often,” he said. “We’ve got real wolves in the show amazing. They’re beautiful and huge and wild and they feel like they’re the size of lions. It’s unbelievable.”

When asked what part the werewolves play in the storyline Moyer could only say, “Well, I don’t know if you don’t know very much about the books, but the story is there is a guy who comes in to help Sookie and he will be a part of that gang. I don’t want to give anything away!”

Production kicked off a few months ago and Joe Manganiello was cast as werewolf Alcide. Vampire Bill was kidnapped at the end of season 2 and Sookie uses this new character, Alcide, to find him. In the book by Charlaine Harris, Alcide is summoned by Eric and he ends up having fling with Sookie. However, Alcide is emotionally attached to his on and off girlfriend Debbie Pelt, who will be played by Brit Morgan in season three. But so far the show hasn’t followed the books exactly, so we’ll see if Sookie and Alcide actually have this steamy fling. I sure hope so though, Joe Manganiello is absolutely gorgeous.

‘Intercourse With A Vampire’ Tackles ‘Twilight’

I love me a well-done vampire spoof and man did this one nail it. Jacob Fleisher’s comedy is about the lusty, not-so-sexy Vampire Larry who lives with his high school sweetheart. As you can see in the first episode (video below), it takes the first Twilight novel/movie and shakes it up a bit by saying “hey, what if Bella and Edward stayed together, but he was a douche.” It takes out the cutesy romance and adds in the laughs.

The performance and jokes in the Intercourse With A Vampire series are obviously super cheesy, but then what spoof isn’t? Some episodes are better than others for sure, you’ve got the cliché and boring jokes and then a few entertaining ones like in the third episode when Tracy sees Vampire Larry for the first time. He smoothly glides down the high school hallway, his hair blowing in the wind. Then a cut to reveal Vampire Larry being pulled along on a skateboard while some chick holds a fan up to his face. Har har.

But don’t worry Twilight fans; this comedy doesn’t just mock Twilight. The title itself is a reference to Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire. The show also has a few True Blood and Let the Right One In gags. I will admit though, the majority of the jokes are based off of Twilight.

But when it comes to Twilight jokes I think blogger Michael Neal hit it dead on,

“If someone out there really wants to make a funny comedy based on Twilight then just adapt the fourth novel “Breaking Dawn.“ You know, the one where Edward has sex with Bella until she is rendered unconscious, then knocks her up, then the baby develops telepathy in the womb, then Edward performs a C-section with his fangs (HIS FANGS), and then Jacob, the werewolf, falls in love with Bella’s infant daughter.”

Ahahahahaha….

TwiCon Coming to Ottawa, Canada!

As a resident of Ottawa, and a huge, huge fan of Twilight, I couldn’t be more excited to announce that TwiCon, the annual Twilight convention, is coming to Canada!! Not only to Canada, but to my very own city, Ottawa! The event was originally scheduled to be held in Toronto this summer but, because of the G20 Summit (and because let’s face it, Toronto already gets enough of the good stuff), it’s been moved to the nation’s capital!

TwiCon has actually only happened once before and that was last year in Dallas, Texas when 3,000 people – mostly screaming teenage girls with Rob Pattinson in their eyes – showed up. They’re estimating that only 1,200 people will show up at Ottawa’s event but I bet we see a lot more. Once again, Canada is underestimated. But I really don’t care how many people come because I know for certain that I will be there!

TwiCon will be held from June 25 – June 27 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and Tinsel Korey, who plays Emily in New Moon will be there to sign autographs and meet fans. But if you’re not into Twilight but love other on-screen vamps, you’ll be happy to hear that Sam Trammell, who plays Sam in True Blood; and Joe Manganiello, who will soon join the series as the leader of the wolf pack, will also be there, in case you want to get into a debate about why vamps are better than wolves.

In addition to the big stars that you’ll see, you can also look forward to taking part in Bella’s self-defense course, tons of vendors that are ready to sell you anything and everything related to our favorite fanged friends, a masked ball, and a dinner with the stars! Tickets are steep, at $179, but really, isn’t that a small price to pay for just how truly awesome this convention sounds? I know I’ll be there for sure! Besides, who knows the next time that TwiCon will come to Canada?

True Blood Sunday Presents: A New Alexander Skarsgård Interview!

With season three of True Blood on the way we’re all dying for some insights on the upcoming episodes. In Tube Talk’s recent interview with Alexander Skarsgård (vampire Eric) speaks on season three, Sookie and his sexy nude scenes. Check it out…

Does Eric have genuine feelings for Sookie? Or is he doing it to get at Bill?
“He’s intrigued by her, for sure. When he meets her for the first time, he knows there’s something different about her and that intrigues him. He doesn’t care too much for humans in general – he thinks they’re pathetic – but when he meets her, there’s something about her. He can’t put his finger on it, but he’s curious for sure.”

It’s not just a case of forbidden fruit?
“No – he’s curious and he’s not gonna let Bill stop him because Bill’s just this little kid!”

Could Eric crush him in a fight?
“Bill? Oh yeah! Without a doubt.”

Sookie aside, is there anyone else in the show at the moment that Eric would be a good match for?
“I don’t know, man. He’s already got his Pam – even though that’s not a sexual thing, he’s got his partner. For sexual attraction, it’s all about Sookie.”

How far into the third season will we see them acting on the attraction?
“I don’t know – we start filming next month and I haven’t seen the script yet! I don’t know what’s gonna happen. But it’s building up…”

Alan Ball has hinted that the Queen of Louisiana will get her comeuppance this season. Will Eric have anything to do with that?
“They have this little business on the side so they’ll definitely interact more I’m sure. Maybe they’ll get punished for that – I don’t know. I know less than all the fans on the blogs! I try to stay away from the fan sites because it’s not good for me to read that stuff – it’ll just freak me out!”

Werewolves will be arriving soon. Should the vampires of Bon Temps be afraid?
“No, I don’t think Eric will be very afraid.”

We’ve seen you naked a fair few times throughout the series. How is it filming those kinds of scenes?
“It doesn’t really bother me that much. I’ve been naked in movies before so I don’t really care about it. I grew up in Sweden so it’s not a big issue.”

Where would you like to see Eric end up by the season three finale?
“I just trust Alan and the writers – they’re doing such a great job. I don’t know where I want him to go. When reading the scripts, I wanna continue to be surprised and discover different sides of Eric. Hopefully we’ll get to know him a little better.”

How long do you see the series running for?
“I don’t know – 45 years?! I’m having a blast, so hopefully we’ll get to do it for a while. I love this show and my character.”

True Blood’s third season is set to debut in June 2010.

Vampire Diaries vs. True Blood: What your favorite vampire show says about you

You did the unthinkable; you invited them into your home, and they can return any time they so choose. The world around us is completely obsessed with the idea of the vampire; with such shows as Vampire Diaries and True Blood, two series that showcase hotties that arose from the dead, no wonder we are in the midst of the age of the creature that never dies. And to be completely honest, this craze is showing no signs of stopping.

If you were to poll people on the street as to what their favorite vampire show was, you would get completely different answers and for different reasons; you may hear what leading vampire is hottest and why or what love story is the best and for x-reason. No matter what conclusion you come to, people have their reasoning and that’s that.

Let us now tell you what your favorite competing vampire show says about you.

Vampire Diaries: You like change. Who doesn’t love a new generation of vampires that can walk among the humans in broad daylight while looking quite young for their true age? One more thing … you’re a bit kinky. Katherine had the Salvatore brothers wrapped around her pale pinkie like nobody’s business … after all, isn’t two better than one?

True Blood: You are a traditionalist, plain and simple. You don’t like to bend the rules, much like the producers don’t bend the rules on the way of the traditional vampire. A fan of this program is also quite pure, kind of like the love that Sookie and Bill share. All in all, you’re a bit bland to the taste but hell, no one’s perfect.

True Blood Sunday Presents: The Latest Southern Vampire Mystery

The second Sunday of True Blood celebration presents a quick bite of info on the latest book in the series that inspired the show. We’ll eventually take time out to review all of the Southern Vampires series by Charlaine Harris, but for the sake of fun, –let’s go backwards! Besides, fans everywhere are waiting for the latest book in the series, –because it’s due to be on bookstore shelves this May! That means there’s only a couple months to go! Yay!

The official website of Charlaine Harris offers all kinds of awesome information on what the author is up to next. Last month and earlier this month, she announced the chance for fans to come together and question Alan Ball about the show, to be used in ‘The Sookie Companion’, –a project due to come out next year. But we’ll bow down and worship that bridge when we come to it.

Currently on the website is a free preview, eek!, of the latest Southern Vampire Mystery: Dead in the Family. Sookie Stackhouse is convalescing from her latest battle, and despite the general turn of events for the better, –things are looking pretty depressing. Her roommate is moving out, and the men in her life are as complicated as ever. The next book, even from Chapter 1, appears to be full of romance, heartache, and melodrama. Yum!

The previous book released by Harris wasn’t really part of the general series, but was still an indispensable addition to the books. A Touch of Dead is a complete collection of Charlaine Harris’s various short stories featuring Sookie Stackhouse. Some of the stories, like Lucky, One Word Answer, Gift Wrap, and Dracula Night, you might have read in other anthologies, such as Between Dark and Daylight, Unusual Suspects, and Many Bloody Returns. There are only five stories in the entire book, as Harris does not include her other short stories set in the “Sookieverse” that do not actually feature Sookie Stackhouse.

Altogether, a great couple of books were released most recently in the line, despite the anthology or novella collection being so limited. The other short stories that don’t feature Sookie can be found in other anthologies, such as Must Love Hellhounds, Death’s Excellent Vacation, Strange Brew, and others that Harris has edited.

True Blood Sunday Presents: Jessica Hamby

We really miss True Blood, so much in fact, that we decided that every Sunday, up until True Blood is re-instated as the best show ever!, that damn it, we’re going to talk about it. And what better day to start with, than Valentine’s Day? And what better character to start with, than Jessica Hamby? Her subplot is the latest little romance to blossom, unfold and well… I guess it isn’t quite collapsed just yet. I mean, what’s one murdered truck driver between lovers?

Jessica Hamby is Bill’s first, and only progeny. He created her as a punishment for his actions in saving Sookie from Longshadow, –Longshadow would have most likely been killed anyway for stealing from a fellow vampire, and Sookie proved a valuable resource in his discovery. But Bill isn’t keen on revealing Sookie’s special talents to the hierarchy of vampire society, so he kept that bit to himself.

As a consequence, he was required to kill a human, and create a vampire, presumably to replace the one that he snuffed out. Jessica was the result. It is also among the character’s unique qualities, that she isn’t in any of the original Sookie Stackhouse novels. She’s a creation entirely of the writers, –and most fans of the books and the show, agree that she’s awesome. Which, is not what usually happens when a producer deviates from the novel storyline in a film or TV show.

Jessica started out as volatile, and cranky, –you know, like any teenager. She gradually became a little more ladylike with the help of Bill, with Sookie as backup. Eventually, she met Hoyt Fortenberry, about midway through the second season. But with a maenad taking over the town and turning everyone into debauchery driven zombies, they had kind of a rocky dating ritual. Eventually, Hoyt’s mother, Maxine Fortenberry, drove Jessica to the breaking point, and she snapped, and bit the batty old woman.

Hoyt left, leaving Jessica to have a complete emotional meltdown. Later however, Hoyt discovered that Jessica’s instincts about Maxine were probably more appropriate than he thought at first. Maxine admitted that she’d lied to him about his father’s death for insurance reasons, and for her own selfish reasons, had kept Hoyt from accomplishing anything in his life. Hoyt left, and went back to Jessica, but too late, –she was already off feeding on a trucker.

Another unfortunate side effect of Jessica’s vampire character, is that she died a virgin. Vampires heal; so each time she has sex, she experiences it “for the first time”, at least physically, which means it will always be a painful experience. Hoyt, in his perpetual charm, explained that there were other ways to enjoy being intimate, without having sex. But before they could have any adventures in foreplay, Hoyt’s mama screwed everything up. As it stands, Hoyt is willing to apologize, and Jessica is off killing people. What do you think will happen with those two in the third season?

Even More Naked Vamps!

There’s good news for all of us True Blood fans! In season three we’ll be seeing even MORE naked goodness than season two! Woo!

According to Todd Lowe, who plays Terry Bellefleur, “A lot of people will be getting naked this season.” Which rocks, because a lot of people got naked last season and we sure loved it. But the best part (for me at least) is that the incredibly sexy Alexander Skarsgård, also known as Vampire Eric, will be showing us a whole lot more.

“Alex is not shy about getting naked at all!” said castmate Carrie Preston, who plays Arlene Fowler. “And there will be lots of those kinds of scenes with Alex this season.” And Lowe added, “He’s already been naked a time or two so far since we’ve gotten back to filming.”

As if I wasn’t excited enough for season three already, now I really want it to come.

Nelsan Ellis, who plays fun and flirty Lafayette, said, “There are a lot of hunky dudes and beautiful women who have been added to the cast, so it doesn’t surprise me that more clothes are coming off.”

I think they should just skip over the clothes and have everyone naked at all times, that would be pure win.

Sam Trammell, who’s already shown a whole lot of skin as Sam Merlotte, said he’d like to have a bigger share of the naked fun. “I’m not having any sex yet,” Trammell said. “They really should provide Sam with more sex.” But then he added, “There is a surprising -well, shocking – scene in the first episode. Some people will be happy and some people will not.”

Ahh what a plot tease!

Well, even without the added nudity I am still beyond excited for the third season of True Blood; Eric’s hot naked ass is just an added bonus.

No, it’s not poetry, –it’s an awesome album inspired by shows like True Blood, and the Twilight films, and novels. The title track of the album is my favorite, ‘Vampire Love’, –but the whole CD is pretty awesome. Chazz deMeyer has kind of a trippy, blues-y electronic thing going that really fits the True Blood music style.

Q: Tell us about Vampire Love, from your own perspective; was there any particular message you wanted to send to vampire fans?

A: When ever I start to write a song I usually complete the music before I start writing the lyrics. Most people find this odd, but the completed music seems to force me into a direction that easily falls into place. I was driving a long distance to a family reunion, listing to the music track, and the words Vampire Love suddenly fell into place. I pulled over to let my wife drive and the lyrics flowed out effortlessly. I couldn’t wait to return to my studio to apply them to the tracks.

To me Vampires, although infinitely more powerful than us humans, also are frail and succumb to many of the pitfalls of life that most of us share. Vampire Love is a song about the love between a Vampire and a human with all the subtleties and nuances of any true love romance. The message is classic, we always fear what we don’t understand, and all too often never take the time to see beyond the initial response. I believe this new series of Vampire stories takes us to that next level for us humans as well as Vampires.

Q: We have to know, –what’s your favorite vampire movie?

A: Well, the one that scared me the most was “Bram Stokers Dracula”. For me it embodied all the horror and fear of vampires I envisioned through my childhood fascination with the super natural. Although the time period coincides what many of us that are older may embrace as ‘the age of vampires”, the stage directing and lighting brought the stark un-reality to life.

Secondary, I love the “Underworld” series. I can’t help it, I’m a sucker for special effects with a strong story line!

Q: This album is both macabre and romantic; can you say what the inspiration was behind a few of the songs?

A: Sure, I’ve pretty much talked about VL, but “Love Type” also carries that vampire element. It’s a play on the words “blood type”. The same attraction that Edward of “Twilight” and Bill of “True Blood” could not suppress for their lovers, the same hold true for us non-vampires. The analogy that love is in our blood and DNA might account for our overwhelming, and somewhat uncontrollable emotions when we find our true soul mate. Incidentally, I’ve found mine!

The Song “Forever” also romantic, but searches the possibility of two people that have always been together throughout time, and will always find each other for eternity. The line “love this strong takes more that one lifetime” gives us that possibility.

Q: Were there any particular scenes in Twilight, True Blood, or other vampire shows/books/films that inspired lyrics or whole songs?

A: Vampire love was inspired after falling in love with the HBO series “True Blood” and reading the “Twilight” series of books. It was the perfect combination of true love and the super natural. For me it viewed Vampires human side, after all they were once human. Putting aside all the old stereo type images of Vampires and giving us a deeper perspective into there forever “every day life”, fears, dreams and conflicts. Although quite cheesy and camp at times, what I gleamed from the series that Vampires can actually fall in love, and to me, love is the most powerful emotion on earth. Perhaps more powerful than a Vampire’s thirst for blood!

Q: It wasn’t too long ago that you experienced some real life horror of your own, and conquered it; can you tell us a little about the accident, and the book that followed your convalescence?

A: OK, when I was a young boy in the 60’s I was talented enough to play and tour with some bands with national exposure and moderate success. Unfortunately, I was in an automobile accident that left me paralyzed from the neck down. I was twenty four at that time. It was a dark time in my life, but good fortune came my way and I recovered most of the use of my right side, and very limited use of my left side. Pretty much like a stroke victim. But as bad as that might sound, I found my soul mate. She was a student therapist at the rehab I was at. It was love at first site, and we’ve been together for thirty three years now. So you can see where the romantic in me comes from.

We have a great life together, but I sometimes wonder if I could have made my mark in music if things turned out differently. The decision to write, record and produce seemed obtainable at this later time in my life. I wrote “Recovery” as a catharsis. I never expected it to turn out well, or that it would open up the possibility of a career once again in music. The entire album is about my life before and after my accident. Elly, my wife, convinced me to write the book “The Fire Within” and tell the whole story in detail. I’m glad I did, it was the best therapy I’ve ever experienced even though it’s thirty three years later. The book has moved many people, which surprised me mostly because I never thought myself, or my accomplishments to be extraordinary. Q: This is the second album since your recovery, do you feel that Vampire Love symbolizes any important landmark in your life so far, or was this just a creative effort that happened to come out really well?

A: Interesting question. I’ve always felt any accomplishment is an important landmark. In fact, I’ve always set forth my life around obtaining my goals, and of course accepting any of the results that may have fell short of them. But, on the other hand I’ve put a great deal of time and effort into Vampire Love and it was important to me that technically as well as creatively it would be the best I’ve done to date, and for me it is! This is a difficult time to market music, there is so much of it. If I had to judge my success by sales than I guess I’ve had very little, but if I only judge my success to my personal satisfaction, then the Vampire Love CD is a hit.

And the People Choose…Vampires!!

If the whole vampire craze that has taken over the world wasn’t clear to you before, it certainly should be after last night! It was then that the People’s Choice Awards gave away seven – count em, seven! – awards to movies, TV shows, and music that are all vampire related! Here’s the rundown for you on who won what.

The 36th Annual People’s Choice Awards were handed out on Wednesday night. And while all you Twilight fans might think that each of the seven awards was given to the famous saga, only five of them were. Some may actually say four, but look again and you’ll see that one of those awards probably wouldn’t have been given without the famous movies. So, just what what awards did Twilight win exactly? The first of course, was for “Favorite Movie.” This actually puzzles me a bit because it seems to be that the movie that won was Twilight, which came out in 2008. I would think the award was actually for New Moon, which did come out last year. But what do I know?

But there were a few other awards that the Twilight saga also took home. One was for “Favorite On-Screen Team”, which is obviously the team of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, who play Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black, respectively. Taylor Lautner also took home an award for “Favorite Breakout Movie Actor.” Yes, Taylor does actually play a smelly werewolf in the movies but, who can think of Jacob Black and not think of vampires in the same thought? And of course, for “Favorite Franchise” (seriously, we’re voting on franchises now?), Twilight picked that one up too. So where does the fifth Twilight award come from? It actually went to the band Paramore, for “Favorite Rock Band.” And where did I get the Twilight connection from? Well, no one had heard of Paramore before Twilight and now you can’t hear their breakout song, “Decode” without thinking of Bella’s and Edward’s relationship. And thanks to that song, Paramore ended up on the Billboard charts and on the Hot 100.

So, what other two awards were given out to vamps? Well, it may not shock you to know that Vampire Diariestook home the award for “Favorite New TV Drama”, very deservedly so, and True Blood took home the award for “Favorite TV Obsession.” Also, I think we would all agree, very deservedly so.

So, from last night’s People’s Choice Awards, it’s clear that vamps are here, they’re big, and they’re going to be around for a long while yet!
