True Blood Sunday Presents: True Blood Crashes Twilight’s Vampire Baseball Game!

A few months ago we filled you Twilight fans in on the big charity baseball game featuring your favorite Hollywood vamps, but it looks like there has been a big change in the lineup.

Recent reports say that Twilight’s Peter Facinelli, who plays the sexy vampire father figure in the series, will no longer be part of the big game. Sorry Twilight fans, but Nelsan Ellis, the amazing man that plays the fabulous fry cook, Lafayette, in True Blood, has taken Peter’s place in the charity Vampire Baseball game in New Orleans on Saturday, March 20.

Facinelli, who plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen, was originally signed on, but he’s no longer on the roster. But don’t worry guys, you still have the wolf pack playing in the game – Chaske Spencer who plays alpha-wolf Sam, Alex Meraz who plays Paul and Tyson Houseman who plays Quil. Daniel Cudmore, who plays Felix, is the only vampire left though. So really, it’s turning into more of a werewolf charity than a vampire one.

While this news may bum out the Twilight lovers, especially the ones that already bought their tickets, this is awesome news for the True Blood fans out there. We get to see one of our favorite characters do a good thing for people that really need help. Kudos Nelsan Ellis.

Eclipse Trailer Has Finally Been Released!

Yay!!! In anticipation for its June 30th release, the trailer for Eclipse has finally been released! Come on, we’ve all been waiting for this ever since we saw New Moon in November, haven’t we? The trailer looks very, very good and looks like the director and producers are going to include the main elements of the book – including the love triangle between Bella, Edward, and Jacob that shows itself more than ever in this part of the series, the Volturi’s anger that Bella has not yet been changed, and of course, the fact that that evil villain vampire, Victoria is still on the loose and is out for Bella’s blood.

There are a few things that you may notice from the trailer, besides the fact that Eclipse looks like it’s going to be even better than the book (because Eclipse was actually my least favorite in the series.) One is that Bella’s hair may seem to look…different. It’s not bad but there does seem to be a slight difference in her appearance. This is because after filming New Moon, Kristen Stewart filmed the movie The Runaways where she plays rocker girl Joan Jett. For the part, Kristen was forced to chop off all of her luscious brown locks and go for a much shorter and funkier ‘do. But because director David Slade, and the rest of us, wanted to maintain Bella’s look for the third movie, she wore a wig.

The role of Victoria is also a different Victoria than the one we saw in Twilight. That Victoria was played by Rachelle Lefevre, who was unavailable to reprise the role for Eclipse. Victoria will now be played by Bryce Dallas Howard, who has expressed before what an amazing job she thought Rachelle did and that she was extremely surprised that Rachelle wouldn’t take on the role once again. So are we, Bryce, so are we. But I’m sure Bryce will work just fine as the evil villain.

I am so excited that the trailer has come out! That must mean that the movie is soon on the way right? Oh wait. It’s still three and a half months until that happens. Oh pooh. Well, in the meantime, enjoy the trailer! You can watch it here!

‘Vampire Diaries’ Nina Dobrev Dishes on Love, Life and Twilight

‘Vampire Diaries’ starlet Nina Dobrev rocks the cover of Seventeen magazine this month, and dishes all the dirt about her off-screen high school drama, about her on-screen love and how she relates to Bella Swan.

There is no doubt that Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore) is incredibly sexy, but Nina tells us why he is hot on and off screen – that it’s also part of his personality. “The first time Paul and I met, I met nine other guys as well because I had already been cast and they were deciding for the Stefan role,” she recalled. “I had to read with like 30 studio executives, and they were just kind of watching and analyzing because that was the whole point of the test…they wanted to see who had the best chemistry. And everyone was great, but Paul had this old soul, like a history that you could feel…he seemed like he’d been around longer, and knew more, and he had a grasp for the character different from anyone else.”

She then shares what the real Paul and Ian (Damon Salvatore) are like off-screen, “They’re both really great in different kinds of ways. Paul definitely takes his job very seriously He’s very professional. Ian’s the prankster, the jokester. He makes light of every moment, and he’s very exciting and cool. He has the best stories, because he has just experienced so much, and he’s been on so many cool sets and movies. We love each other’s company.”

But the big question is would Nina ever date one of the guys, “I think it could definitely get sticky if you dated your costar,” Nina explained. “To be completely honest, dating an actor is very complicated. There’s a lot of vanity involved. And they’re in their head, and they’re kind of crazy. And you’re always surrounded by beautiful people. I would prefer not to date an actor.”

But then the article moves on to her high school days and she deals us some good advice, “Looking back on high school, I just remember specific scenarios and thinking, wow, that was such a big deal at the time, but right now it feels like it never even happened. So I guess if I can give any advice, I would just say that everything will pass, and it’ll feel like it was a big deal over nothing. Life goes on and then you change and other things happen, and everything feels like it’s so much worse afterward. It’ll always get better.”

And of course, like most interviews we get to the whole lame Twilight vs. Vampire Diaries issue, but Nina answers perfectly. “I think that Elena has more awareness of her friends and family, and everyone around her, and looking out for everyone’s best interests. But Bella reflects that unconditionally in love, the blinded love that girls really do experience sometimes. They fall in love with someone, and they’ll do anything and everything for that one person. I think I’m more like Elena, but I have a little bit of Bella in me. When I’m in love with someone and they’re really important to me, I will definitely take care of them, but at the same time, I’m not going to throw everything away for a relationship — I still have my friends, and I still have an awareness of everything around me.”

Do You Suffer from Sanguivoriphobia?

Do the ideas of vampires walking among us terrify you? Can you not even watch Twilight, one of the tamest vampire movies by far, without shaking in fear just a tiny bit? Many people like the creepy crawly feeling that many of the most gruesome vampire flicks and books can give us, but to many, they’re just another way to get scared for no good reason. And those people who really might get scared to the point of panic at even the thought of vampires, it could be a bigger concern.

Sanguivoriphobia, is an actual phobia and literally translated means “fear of blood eaters” or, in other words, the fear of vampires. People who suffer from sanguivoriphobia may become stressed and upset at the mere thought of reading a vampire book or watching a vampire movie. In fact, there might be nothing more horrible to them because they often want to completely block out anything having to do with vampires. Those who suffer from a severe case of the condition may even become convinced that vampires roam the Earth and may even be highly suspicious that many of the people around them may be a vampire.

While some may snicker at the thought of such a condition, there are other actual phobias that go along with sanguivoriphobia. One of these, and a phobia which sanguivoriphobia could be classified under, is teratophobia. People with this phobia have a fear of monsters in general, which vampires could be called, often rightfully so. While people under the age of ten generally aren’t diagnosed with this condition, adults who suffer from a severe fear of things like vampires, werewolves, and all things supernatural and spooky in general, could be suffering from teratophobia.

I think many of us suffer from sanguivoriphobia in one form or another. Even if we love thinking and talking about vampires, sometimes what makes a book or film so great is when it’s gruesome and gory. Sure it’s scary. But that’s all part of the fun.

‘Intercourse With A Vampire’ Tackles ‘Twilight’

I love me a well-done vampire spoof and man did this one nail it. Jacob Fleisher’s comedy is about the lusty, not-so-sexy Vampire Larry who lives with his high school sweetheart. As you can see in the first episode (video below), it takes the first Twilight novel/movie and shakes it up a bit by saying “hey, what if Bella and Edward stayed together, but he was a douche.” It takes out the cutesy romance and adds in the laughs.

The performance and jokes in the Intercourse With A Vampire series are obviously super cheesy, but then what spoof isn’t? Some episodes are better than others for sure, you’ve got the cliché and boring jokes and then a few entertaining ones like in the third episode when Tracy sees Vampire Larry for the first time. He smoothly glides down the high school hallway, his hair blowing in the wind. Then a cut to reveal Vampire Larry being pulled along on a skateboard while some chick holds a fan up to his face. Har har.

But don’t worry Twilight fans; this comedy doesn’t just mock Twilight. The title itself is a reference to Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire. The show also has a few True Blood and Let the Right One In gags. I will admit though, the majority of the jokes are based off of Twilight.

But when it comes to Twilight jokes I think blogger Michael Neal hit it dead on,

“If someone out there really wants to make a funny comedy based on Twilight then just adapt the fourth novel “Breaking Dawn.“ You know, the one where Edward has sex with Bella until she is rendered unconscious, then knocks her up, then the baby develops telepathy in the womb, then Edward performs a C-section with his fangs (HIS FANGS), and then Jacob, the werewolf, falls in love with Bella’s infant daughter.”

Ahahahahaha….

Apotamkin or rather, The Cold One

I’m sure we all clearly remember the scene in Twilight when Bella is beginning to get suspicious that there’s something “special” about Edward and goes home to furiously type things into Google. The camera views of what she pulls up are succinct, yet clear enough to give us the understanding that Bella has come across some Quielette legends stating something about “The Cold One” and how this cold one is a vampire. But,what is The Cold One? Is there actually a vampire known as this?

Well, the closest thing to any vampire legend that would bear any similarity to the legend of The Cold One would be the Apotamkin. This creature is unlike most other vampire folklore because it’s exclusive to the Native American people. The Apotamkin was a bona fide vampire however, with all the abilities and super strengths of other vampires that we know. It was believed among Native Americans that the Apotamkin would feast on the blood of any animal or human. And it got its name just the way you would expect – Apotamkins were very cold to the touch, mostly because they were dead bodies.

However, it’s been said that the Native American never really believed in the Apotamkin and that it was a cautionary tale told to children. This was used especially when warning children about wandering off by themselves with no supervision.

And, as for Twilight, Stephenie Meyer has said that in regards to her version and her version alone, she had no similarities in mind when writing the book. She simply needed to create random bits of Edward’s character and piece them together, cryptically, with mythical vampire folklore. Clever, though, how perhaps even without knowing it, Meyer has combined her own imagination of the Quileutte legend, with actual Native American vampire folklore!

TwiCon Coming to Ottawa, Canada!

As a resident of Ottawa, and a huge, huge fan of Twilight, I couldn’t be more excited to announce that TwiCon, the annual Twilight convention, is coming to Canada!! Not only to Canada, but to my very own city, Ottawa! The event was originally scheduled to be held in Toronto this summer but, because of the G20 Summit (and because let’s face it, Toronto already gets enough of the good stuff), it’s been moved to the nation’s capital!

TwiCon has actually only happened once before and that was last year in Dallas, Texas when 3,000 people – mostly screaming teenage girls with Rob Pattinson in their eyes – showed up. They’re estimating that only 1,200 people will show up at Ottawa’s event but I bet we see a lot more. Once again, Canada is underestimated. But I really don’t care how many people come because I know for certain that I will be there!

TwiCon will be held from June 25 – June 27 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and Tinsel Korey, who plays Emily in New Moon will be there to sign autographs and meet fans. But if you’re not into Twilight but love other on-screen vamps, you’ll be happy to hear that Sam Trammell, who plays Sam in True Blood; and Joe Manganiello, who will soon join the series as the leader of the wolf pack, will also be there, in case you want to get into a debate about why vamps are better than wolves.

In addition to the big stars that you’ll see, you can also look forward to taking part in Bella’s self-defense course, tons of vendors that are ready to sell you anything and everything related to our favorite fanged friends, a masked ball, and a dinner with the stars! Tickets are steep, at $179, but really, isn’t that a small price to pay for just how truly awesome this convention sounds? I know I’ll be there for sure! Besides, who knows the next time that TwiCon will come to Canada?

First Bite: a Teen Book by You

A little while ago, we had a post on writing vampire novels. But, if you don’t think you have a way with words and don’t necessarily want to write one, would you like to star in one? This is exactly what Teen Book by You does with their vampire book First Bite.

Teen Book by You is a publisher that publishes novels directed towards the teenage audience. The twist is that the reader can star in the book and have their friends and family star right alongside them. First Bite is a book that’s about a young high school girl that first meets a boy accidentally in the library of the school. Unknowingly to her, she’s just met a vampire, but she can’t help but be entranced by him. Hmmm…sound familiar? The girl in the story tries whatever she can to find out more about the boy, but he’s only full of unanswerable questions. Then, even after she’s found out that he’s a vampire, the two can’t stay away from each other. Yep, you know how this one turns out. They fall in love, are destined to be together, yada yada yada. But although the plot might be lacking, there might be something in the way the story is presented.

If you’re interested in starring in your own Twilight, I mean First Bite novel, you can order here from the website. You’ll be asked questions such as what you want the heroine’s name to be, the vampire’s name to be, the friends’ names to be and even asked details such as their hair and eye color – all so the book can fully reflect you and the people you love. The website is a little fuzzy on just how much ordering a book costs but they are quite adamant that for only an extra $14.95 you can personalize the book even more by adding a picture to the cover.

Even if you’re not into the idea of this book for yourself, it really could be a great gift for someone. Imagine giving a Twilight-obsessed teenage girl a copy of a book just like it where she is the star and her crush is the vampire? She would totally die!

Cirque du Freak: Reminiscing & Reviewing

The Saga of Darren Shan, made into a film… wow. That was all I could think about when the previews first started popping up all over the place. I first started reading the novels way back in 2000, when the first came out. I never actually finished the series, because I’m one of those unfortunate people who have to either forget about the pain of waiting for a new novel in a series, or just go insane for a year. Currently, I’ve been experiencing some severe dementia on account of having to wait a whole two more weeks for the new Kim Harrison novel, and then another couple of months before the new Sookie Stackhouse novel.

One of the great things about the Darren Shan Saga is not having to wait; it’s my personal goal to collect all 12 of the novels once more, and re-read. A little bit more information on the books; they’re not exactly girly vampire novels. Actually, these books were kind of written for a male audience. There’s fighting, grossness, –it’s like a more adventurous, horror-filled Harry Potter series. Except that despite all the sub-par press, Darren Shan came before all the Twilight hype, and before the big vampire media craze to begin with.

I expect that when someone actually offered to purchase the rights to the books for filming purposes, the author, real name Darren O’Shaughnessy aka Darren Shan, or D.B. Shan, probably didn’t see it coming. After all, he’d been writing for over a decade about vampires, and other horror fantasy and teen thrillers. Why now? Well, so that the studios could cash in on some more vampire trend stuff, most likely. The thing is, there’s just so much more going on in these novels. The romance isn’t as stifling and melodramatic, and the adventure is keyed up.

So, the books, –fabulous, always something new, and they’re short. You can probably read a book from the series in one sitting. And once again, I have to stress a unisex appeal, –the girls go for vampires, and the guys go for the lack of romantic drama, and the action overdose. Darren Shan, a normal teen, starts out in an easily identifiable situation, –a suburban robot cycle that seems to go on forever. He has an asshole for friend, –and plenty of us have asshole friends. So it’s easy to relate to this aspect too.

The rest of the story unfolds when Cirque du Freak rolls into town. The characters in the book are just as colorful as those on the big screen. Less sparkly attractive, more grotesque and strange. The werewolves in this film don’t show off their pecs. They scratch their balls, and bite off body parts… that subsequently, grow back. The freaks are freakish, and absolutely hilarious. The vampires were led by John C. Reilly, and Willem Dafoe, –who seemed to be pretty busy in the vampire genre last year, what with his roles in both Cirque du Freak, and the Spierig Brother’s Daybreakers.

In all reality, the cast was fairly star-spangled, as it also included the bearded, but beautiful psychic, Madame Truska, played Salma Hayek, the hilarious and incredibly rude Alexander Ribs, played by Orlando Jones, Ken Watanabe as Mr. Hibernius Tall, and Patrick Fugit as the shedding, but sweet, Evra Von. The film, one could fairly say, is for a fact, good fun for all ages. Adults will get the subtle jokes, and kids will get the not-so-subtle, and the tween girls will get their vampire fix while we wait for the next Twilight film.

My Valentine’s wish is, that you guys will grab the movie at some point over the upcoming few weeks, –it’s available for Netflix on the 23rd, –and see the movie if you haven’t already. Try to experience it with a no expectations mindframe, –don’t expect the vampires to be lame, or the characters to be depressing. Reilly and Dafoe perform beautifully, –Dafoe is always absurdly enchanting, known for his tendency to pad his part and overact to the best of his ability, –you won’t be disappointed by anything other than his short time on the screen. Reilly on the other hand, performs his best since 2002’s ‘Chicago’. So please, just.. get in the coffin, see the movie, and you know… all that jazz.

Vampires Coming to the Private Practice!

Vampires haven’t just invaded prime time, they’ve also made their way into medical dramas. Not surprising actually, given the physical consequences that both being a vampire and getting bitten by a vampire have. But actually, this time it ties in quite nicely to Moonlight’s post “I Want to Be a Vampire!” The show is Private Practice and tomorrow night, vampires will make their way onto the show. Well, a boy who thinks he’s a vampire anyway.

In the episode, a girl comes in to get treated for various symptoms when the doctors find human bite marks on her neck. The episode is pretty thorough from what I can tell, covering everything from how movies like Twilight and shows like Vampire Diaries are giving teenagers the wrong impression about vampires. I am certainly not condemning either of these two wonderful stories about vampires – I love them both. But unfortunately, just like everything else that seems really cool, people sometimes have a tendency to take them a bit too far. And that’s just what this Private Practice is all about.

I have to admit, I don’t really watch the show, although I’ve caught a couple episodes and it seems okay. But I might just have to watch this one. I think it’s funny to see how some of the doctors don’t think it’s possible that things like this could happen because Twilight’sfictional. But who knows? Maybe it really could open some people’s eyes. Even some of those who are looking to get bitten by a vampire. The show then of course, divulges into all the horrors and dangerous things that can happen to you if you allow yourself to get bitten by anybody.
