Teen Books Coming January 2011

It’s the first day of the month and you know what that means – books! It’s that glorious time where we take a peek at the vampire books coming out this month. Since January is packed full of new bloodsucker releases I’m splitting it up, so first up is all of the young adult novels we have to look forward to this January.

The Vampire Diaries: Stefan’s Diaries #2: Bloodlust by L. J. Smith and Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec
I said this about the first book in the series and I’ll say it again – even though L. J. Smith is listed as one of the authors, she had no part in this book. These new Vampire Diaries books are the creation of the people behind the show. Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, producers of the TV show, are the folks that wrote this series (which takes a look at the Salvatore brother’s past). So if you’re hoping for a new Smith story, you won’t find it here. However, if you’re a fan of the show and not the original books then I highly suggest picking up these books.
Coming out January 4, 2011.

Night School (A Blood Coven Vampire Novel) by Marianne Mancusi
In the latest Blood Coven book, the McDonald twins are forced to hide out deep in the Swiss Alps at Riverdale Academy, a secret vampire slayer training facility. And with no way to contact their vampire boyfriends for rescue, they’re going to have to play nice with the locals. But when Sunny starts acting strange, Rayne realizes that there’s more to fear at Riverdale than getting staked by the student body-leading to a showdown in Fairyland that may cost the twins their lives.

Axe Cop Volume One (Axe Cop 1) by Malachai Nicolle and Ethan Nicolle
This bizarre and hugely popular webcomic is finally coming to print! It’s not about vampires, but it does feature them (as well as a plethora of peculiar creatures). Created by five-year-old Malachai Nicolle and illustrated by his older brother, the cartoonist Ethan Nicolle, Axe Cop Volume 1 collects the entire original run of the hit webcomic that has captured the world’s attention with its insanely imaginative adventures.
Coming out January 4, 2011.

Awakened (House of Night) by P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast
In the 8th book of the widely popular House of Night series, Neferet is back at school and has sworn vengeance on Zoey.  Dominion over Kalona is only one of the weapons she plans to use against Z.  But Zoey has found sanctuary on the Isle of Skye and is being groomed by Queen Sgiach to take over for her there.  Being Queen would be cool, wouldn’t it?  Why should she return to Tulsa? After losing her human consort, Heath, she will never be the same – and her relationship with her super-hot-warrior, Stark, may never be the same either. And what about Stevie Rae and Rephaim?  The Raven Mocker refuses to be used against Stevie Rae, but what choice does he have when no one in the entire world, including Zoey, would be okay with their relationship?

All Just Glass by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
I am SO excited for this book! All Just Glass takes place after Shattered Mirror – Sarah Vida has given up everything for love. From a legendary family of vampire-hunting witches, Sarah was raised to never trust a vampire, to never let her guard down, and to avoid all tricky attachments of the heart. But now Sarah IS a vampire – changed by the boy she thought she loved. Her family has forsaken her, and Sarah herself is disgusted by her appetite for blood. Aida Vida is Sarah’s older sister, the good, reliable sibling who always does her family proud. But when Aida’s mother insists that Sarah be found and killed, Aida is given the one assignment that she may not be able to carry out.
Coming out January 11, 2011.

Throat by R. A. Nelson
About seventeen-year-old Emma, who feels cursed by her epilepsy – until the lost night. She’s shocked to wake up in the hospital one morning, weak from blood loss. When her memories begin to return, she pieces together that it was a man – a monster – who attacked her: a vampire named Wirtz. And it was her very condition that saved her: a grand mal seizure interrupted Wirtz and left Emma with all the amazing powers of a vampire – heightened senses, rapid speed – but no need to drink blood. Is Emma now a half-vampire girl? One thing soon becomes clear: the vampire Wirtz is fierce and merciless, feared even by his own kind, and won’t leave a job undone.
Coming out January 25, 2011.

Blessed by Cynthia Leitich Smith
About Quincie P. Morris, a teen restaurateuse and neophyte vampire, who is in the fight of her life. Even as she adjusts to her new appetites, she must clear her best friend and true love, the hybrid werewolf Kieren, of murder charges; thwart the apocalyptic ambitions of Bradley Sanguini, the seductive vampire-chef who “blessed” her; and keep her dead parents’ restaurant up and running. She hires a more homespun chef and adds the preternaturally beautiful Zachary to her wait staff. But with hundreds of new vampires on the rise and Bradley off assuming the powers of Dracula Prime, Zachary soon reveals his true nature – and a flaming sword – and they hit the road to staunch the bloodshed before it’s too late. Even if they save the world, will there be time left to salvage Quincie’s soul?

By Moonlight

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  5. most of those sound pretty interesting. (i think ill be skipping the new Vampire Diaries one though- the first wasnt bad but not thrilling at all) and ive read one of Cythia Leitich Smith’s before (Eternal) and she has great potential as a vampire writer, so ill be picking up her new book when i can.

      1. Eternal is about a guardian angel, Zachary, who tries saving Miranda, the girl he’s assigned to, who was turned into a vampire and became a vampire princess. I haven’t read it, but I heard the vampires are a lot more like the traditional vampire (evil undead corpses), rather than those featured in most YA books nowadays. Hope I helped! :)
