Remember CASTLEVANIA, the Nintendo game? I remember it, but I confess that I never played it. For whatever reason, when I’d make my weekly visit to the video rental store to pick up a trio of VHS tapes and couple of Nintendo games—yes, kiddies, this was how it was done back in the day—I’d never get CASTLEVANIA. As a matter of fact I don’t remember ever seeing it on the shelves. Maybe it was always checked out. (That means someone else had already rented out all the copies, kiddies.) I remember seeing ads for the game in the back covers of comic books and thinking it looked cool.
I’ve heard the game’s sequel wasn’t too groovy. I couldn’t say, personally, as I never played CASTLEVANIA 2. I did love LEGACY OF KAIN: BLOOD OMEN, the first in the LOK series from Sony’s Playstation, and BLOOD OMEN looks to me to be a jacked-up, bloodier version of CASTLEVANIA 2, what with its roleplaying elements and all, so I probably would’ve loved it if I HAD ever played it. I probably would love the music, too, which is available currently on vinyl. So if you’re a fan of the game from your childhood, or just a hipster who is curious about it, you can own your own CASTLEVANIA record. I’m kinda more interested in playing the game now, though.
