The Real Top 10 Vampire Movies

While scanning the latest vampire blogs and news I came across a list of the top vampire movies, and well, it was horrible (Van Helsing should never be on a top 10 vampire movie list). So I got my google search on and looked up other vampire movie lists, and of course, those were all terrible as well. I learned pretty quickly that all of the movies listed were actually the writer’s opinion of the best vampire movies out there. One person’s opinion isn’t good enough for me, so in an effort to find the best vampire movies I went to IMDB.com and did a search. In order to get the best results I did a search for the highest rated vampire films, and I made sure that each film had at least ten thousand votes, not just one or two.

So here are my findings, a real top 10 list of the best vampire movies, voted by thousands and thousands of people – not just one random writer.

10. Blade – Rating 7.0/10
This kickass film about one of our favorite vampire hunters, Blade, made the list with over 60,000 votes.

9. The Fearless Vampire Killers – Rating 7.1/10
I was shocked to find this on the list, but it has been in fact voted the ninth highest rated vampire film. About a noted professor and his dim-witted apprentice, who fall prey to their inquiring vampires while on the trail of the ominous damsel in distress.

8. I Am Legend – Rating 7.1/10
Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into vampiric monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles to find a cure. While some don’t think it’s vampiric enough, I disagree. It is in fact a vampire film and it’s made the top ten list. Hurray! Love this movie!

7. From Dusk Till Dawn – Rating 7.1/10
About two criminals and their hostages who unknowingly seek temporary refuge in an establishment populated by vampires. This badass film has made the list with well over 80,000 votes.

6. Dracula (1992) – Rating 7.3/10
Starring Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder and Anthony Hopkins this widely popular film, based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, wins the sixth spot on your list.

5. Interview with the Vampire – Rating 7.5/10
That’s right Anne Rice fans, this amazing film made the top ten list (no shock there). Starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and many other A-listers, this film tells the life story of the vampire Louis. Personally, it’s one of my favorite vampire flicks.

4. Dracula (1931) – Rating 7.7/10
This classic film, starring the legendary Bela Lugosi, wins the fourth spot on the list. Based on Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula.

3. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust – Rating 7.8/10
I’ll admit it, this one shocked me, but the numbers don’t lie. With thousands of votes, Vampire Hunter D has made the list of the top ten vampire films. The movie is about hunters who race to save a girl stolen from her home by a vampire.

2. Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror – Rating 8.1/10
This 1922 classic beat out countless vampire films. Over 30,000 people voted on this movie and the final tally is an amazing 8.1 out of 10. An incredible score for such an old film.

1. Let the Right One In – Rating 8.1/10
I wasn’t surprised to find this on the top of the list. With over 60,000 votes, Let the Right One In has a huge fan base, and understandably so. It’s a touching, yet horrifying, tale of a young boy and a vampire girl. The story is so amazing and captivating it has earned this film the number one spot.

Honorable mentions that almost made the list:
11. Lost Boys
12. Near Dark
13. Shadow of the Vampire
14. Fright Night
15. Underworld

There you go, a real list of the top ten vampire films, rated by thousands. Keep in mind that this is a list of the top rated films, not the most popular. So before you Twi-hards go into attack mode, Twilight isn’t on the list because while it’s super popular, it has HORRIBLE ratings (5.6/10 to be exact).

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  1. Not all that fond of every title on that list, but I acknowledge the superior process with which you went about it. After all, I never claimed my own “Top Ten” list was anything other than my own personal opinion. For the record, mine included “Let Me In” as well as “Lets Scare Jessica To Death,” both of whom are on Stephen King’s list as well.

“Van Helsing” is on the other end of the spectrum along with “Dracula 3000” and “Mamma Dracula” and “A Polish Vampire in Burbank.”

    1. I have no issue with your list :) Personal opinion lists are fine, I’ve done them a bunch of times. :)

  2. The Fearless Vampire Killers will definitely be in my top 10, I’m not surprised it was well rated, I know a lot of people who love this movie (but maybe it just means my weird friends enjoy this kind of humor :D )
Let the Right One In totally deserves the first place, what amazing movie!
Blade really often appears in top vampire movie lists, but I didn’t really like it. Same thing for Coppola’s Dracula, this movie quite annoys me. But well, if Bela Lugosi is 4th and Interview with a Vampire 5th, I’m quite happy :)

    1. Numbers on IMDB don’t lie, the second you vote it shows up on the count. Unless there’s some massive glitch I highly doubt any of their numbers are inaccurate.

  6. i am actually shocked that I am Legend made the top 10 vampire film list. i have seen it a couple times and i never thought to link it to vampires, i thought it was just some mutine thing they turned into. i am not really shocked Dracula made the list twice, it is probably one of the most well known vampire legends around.

  7. Well, I don´t care about other people´s opinions, I will make my own. I think From Dusk till Dawn and Blade are trash, whatever IMDB says. I enjoyed Van Helsing, it´s fairytale Transylvania and classic monsters, including gorgeous and fun (if over-the-top!) vampire brides, and loved Hammer films not on this list. Let me in… .Ok, I know only it is remake of Let the right one in. I didn´t hate Sweish version, bullies should spend rest of their lives with their heads in the toilet-seat (off-screen, thank you), but for such cinematically celebrated vampire movie it wastes awfully lot of time with shots of ugly suburb.

  8. Good list; here are some under-appreciated movies:

The Last Man On Earth. The most faithful version of I Am Legend, starring Vincent Price.

Immortality (AKA Wisdom of Crocodiles). Jude Law as a manipulative pick-up artist ladykiller, a scary scenario even aside from the vampire aspect.

Dracula: Pages From A Virgin’s Diary. B&W silent ballet. Best Renfield ever, and a great line: “Infants for supper?”

Subspecies. Shot on location in Romania and features two well-known archetypes – the Nosferatu-like monstrous vamp and the pretty boy ‘good’ vampire – which rarely appear in the same movie.

  9. I’d say that Interview With The Vampire would at least be #3. Honestly I’m, surprised that Underworld didn’t make the list.

  10. no nosferatu? no dracula 1931 or 1979? no Chris Lee movies? no cronos?, no nosferatu the vampyre?, no bram’s dracula?, no subspecies?, no near dark?, no vampires kiss?, no blood & donuts?, no salem’s lot?, no interview with the vampire?, no martin?. sorry this list blows donkey balls.

these above are REAL vampire movies compared to those.

  11. I have only one real problem with this list, the fact that you are requiring 10,000 votes for the films, in order for them to make the list. There are some truly excellent vampire films that just would not have that many votes because they are smaller titles and less known. Does that make your choices better than these? No. Popularity and big budgets do not necessarily translate to a good film. I admire your decision to take a more mathematical approach to this process though. I have done a similar thing, tempered with my own input. I have a list of the 70 Best Vampire Films based on an average of IMDB scores, Rotten Tomatoes scores, and my own ratings. It can be found here: http://www.imdb.com/list/F1w6m2-kN9k/

It looks similar to yours but has some big differences as well. Overall, your list is pretty decent.

  13. I am Legend is NOT a vampire film. The book it is based on is a vampire story, but this film has been changed to such a degree that it is barely like the original story at all. The original movie “The Last Man” starring Vincent Price however, IS a vampire film.

  14. Thanks for uploading the list but please upload a list consisting of movies that come from 1990 to 2015 …
This list contains too old films also.
