The Upcoming ‘Tempted’ by the Cast girls

temptedTempted, the latest book in the young adult House of Night vampire series by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast comes out soon, October 27 to be exact. For those that haven’t read this popular series it’s about a school for newly marked vampire teens, a school that teaches them how to live as vampires in a world of humans. The series has a new and fun take on vampires that is quite refreshing. In the world of House of Night The Change from human to vampyre (how they spell it in the book) takes four years (or so), during which time the adolescents, known as “fledglings”, must attend one of the “House of Night” boarding schools. While there, they are required to take the Vampyre Sociology 101 course to learn the dangers they face. If a fledgling is not in constant proximity to adult vampyres, the fledgling will die, so the fledglings rarely leave the school. About one in ten fledglings die anyway, since their bodies cannot tolerate the change.  Vampires are known to the world and the funny thing is many of the real life actors we know and love are vampires, which is a hilarious addition.

While I love this series and read the first book in one sitting, it is meant to be teen friendly, meaning the authors try way WAY to hard to sound like cool hip teenagers. It can become very annoying very fast. But if you get past that the story is interesting and different, full of mythology and a new look at vampirism. The new book Tempted is the sixth book in the series (which is planned to be 12 books long) and leaves off where (the plot-less) Hunted left off. Hopefully this new book makes up for the last few books. The series started out strong but faded quickly into pointless storylines that went no where.  So as a fan myself, I have high hopes for Tempted to bring it all together.

Since I don’t want to ruin the series for new readers I wont post the new book’s plot description, instead I’ll post the first book’s – Marked

In 16-year-old Zoey Redbird’s world, vampyres not only exist but are also tolerated by humans. Those whom the creatures “mark” as special enter the House of Night school where they will either become vampyres themselves, or, if their body rejects the change, die. To Zoey, being marked is truly a blessing, though she’s scared at first. She has never fit into the human world and has always felt she is destined for something else. Her grandmother, a descendant of the Cherokee, has always supported her emotionally, and it is she who takes the girl to her new school. But even there the teen stands apart from the others. Her mark from the Goddess Nyx is a special one, showing that her powers are very strong for one so young. At the House of Night, Zoey finds true friendship, loyalty, and romance as well as mistrust and deception. She realizes that all is not right in the vampyre world and that the problems she thought she left behind exist there as well.

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).
