The Vatican Hates Twilight
It turns out that the Roman Catholic Church is pretty anti-Twilight. Weird since I totally pictured the Pope chilling on his thrown reading about the star-crossed lovers and gushing to his cardinals about how he is totally team Jacob. Ok… serious now. The Roman Catholic Church has let known their concerns over the growing popularity of the Twilight series, as Vatican officials have called the vampire franchise a “moral vacuum with a deviant message.” Which I think is totally ridiculous since Twilight is so squeaky clean. I mean come on, they only feed on animals and Edward and Bella wait until marriage before having sex. Seems pretty damn moral to me.
Either way the Vatican feels the Twilight books and movies are something genuinely horrible and that parents need to pay closer attention to what their children read and watch. You know because vampires that sparkle in sunlight, save the lives of humans, wait until marriage to have sex and go to high school are pure instruments of evil and corruption.
According to Monsignor Franco Perazzolo of the Pontifical Council of Culture, “The theme of vampires in Twilight combines a mixture of excesses that as ever is aimed at young people and gives a heavy esoteric element. It is once again that age-old trick or ideal formula of using extremes to make an impact at the box office. This film is nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such should be of concern.”
But don’t worry Twilight fans, the Vatican does this all the time. Remember the Harry Potter drama they stirred? Oh noes! Wizardry and magic is the work of the DEVIL!!! Or what about The Da Vinci Code nonsense they went on about? They wanted the movie boycotted because it was an insult to Christianity. Really, don’t they have anything better to do? Out of all the popular books out there I can’t believe it’s the lily white Twilight that they’re attacking. Pick your battles boys, be happy that teens love a book packed full of morals.

They’re probably freaking out because the series is popular with tweens/teens and that’s the age range the church feels they need to “save” under some circumstances. But yes compared to MANY of the vamp stories I read and write, the Twilight series is virginal.
Twilight may not be morally corrupt – its vapidity. Vapidity is just as damaging.
…vapid means tedious or dull. Why would the Vatican care if it’s boring or flat?
Ummmmmm the Vatican SHOULDN’T care what we like and what we don’t like. And i totaly saw the pope in a blanket nere the fire with Twilight in his hands (reading the series for the 4th time) in a werid dream i had. Well, I’m no Alice so what do I know? Anyway, the Twilight Saga is the cleanest vampire series I’ve read (holding Beautiful Creatures(which my not even be a vampire book) and Blue Blood in my hands).
I’m reading ‘Beautiful Creatures’ too, I’m halfway through it–I love it! I hope Lena and Ethan end up together. They do mention vampires a few times, don’t they? And there are a few very obvious hints dropped about Macon Ravenwood.
I agree. Twilight is now attacked as evil by every moralist: “Horrible messages to girls!” “Anti-Christian” (Even though it is written by Christian.) Good Lord. And I am not even Twilight fan.
It’s closer to the truth than all of you realize.
And they don’t want anyone finding that out.
