Thoughts on THE STRAIN Season Three, Episode Four

Quinlan’s okay, so all is well! I didn’t really expect them to kill him off, but I was afraid they’d put him in a coma or something for a few episodes. So glad my fears were unfounded. He’s fine, just totally pissed off at the Ancients. Speaking of which, I hate the little vampire yes-man who speaks for the Ancients. He’s like their version of the Mouth of Sauron from the extended version of THE RETURN OF THE KING. Except the Mouth was cool and creepy-looking. This guy is just annoying. I was hoping Quinlan would chop his head off. I also hate the police guy in charge of the chain gangs. I want to see him get drained by a Strigoi. I’m not too worried about Gus surviving his indentured servitude as a Strigoi hunter, but I sure hope they don’t kill off Angel.

I found it amusing to see Eichorst so frazzled after the death of the Master. (Totally called it, by the way, that the Master’s essence was in the worm and thus he wasn’t really killed.) The idea of the vampire suicide bombers was a little touch of brilliance. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them continue to use this tactic, since, as with the Aliens in the franchise of said name, their blood itself is a weapon; like the Aliens with their acid blood, the Strigoi are as dangerous dead as alive.

Kelly just gets more intriguing as a character. I think some of her maternal instincts are starting to come back. At the same time, though, she is fighting the urge to drain her son. She’s still my pick for who the Master will bond with next, but last night it occurred to me, based on the Master’s comments to Eph that he and Zack were “together,” that it could be Zack. This would be an interesting twist, having the Master be a child. If they go this route, though, there gonna need to recast that role again. The kid playing Zack doesn’t have the chops to pull it off.

I wonder if something will develop between Eph and Dutch, now that they’ve both managed to alienate everyone else. For that matter, considering how much hooch he’s downing each episode, will Eph succumb to alcohol poisoning before the end of the season?
