Upcoming Animated Film for the Lil’ Vampire Fans

The past few years has brought us a wide assortment of vampire movies, everything from horror films to romances, from thrillers to comedies. We’ve seen it all, except for one big genre – animation. But thanks to French comic-book artist turned director, Joann Sfar, we are finally getting a new animated vampire film perfect for the lil’ kids out there. The upcoming movie is titled Little Vampire, and is based on Joann Sfar’s best-selling graphic novel Little Vampire Goes to School.

Since the project is still in the early stages there’s little info on it, but we do know that Little Vampire will be made by the French studio StudioCanal and that it will not only be in English (YAY!), but it will also be in 3D.

“Little Vampire has decided that despite his ability to fly, freedom to turn himself into a rat, a wolf, or a bat–even his unquestioned right to “bite little girls till they bleed, without ever getting into trouble”–that what he really wants to do is go to school. The kind with teachers, other kids, and math homework. Unfortunately for Little Vampire, teachers and other kids don’t hang out at school in the dead of night, but math homework abounds, and when Little Vampire starts completing a little boy’s assignments for him, the two get to be friends.”

It’s a cute little storyline, which will no doubt be a super adorable movie for young children in need of vampires in their life.

“Little Vampire should be very funny for adults, but also play for a broad range of kids,” StudioCanal chairman-CEO Olivier Courson said.

“More than about friendship, Little Vampire is about the freeing imagination that is useful to overwhelm difficult realities. The whole point is to be funny about sad subjects,” Sfar added, saying Little Vampire, his first venture into CGI, will be gentle in its tone and aimed at mainstream audiences.

Set to come out in 2013, Little Vampire is currently planned to release in France, Germany and the UK. However, since the book is so popular in the US the studio is also planning on trying to get the movie over to the US as well. Here’s hoping they succeed, I love me some cartoons!
