We reported years ago that Richelle Mead’s bestselling Vampire Academy series was to be made into a movie franchise – but we hadn’t heard a single thing about the project since then… until now. The film is finally moving forward by getting itself a script.
According to the official Facebook page for the film, “We have a writer & a script: Dan Waters of Heathers fame! Woot Woot!!”
“Dan has written a brilliant screenplay for Vampire Academy. Smart and funny, clever and really a great read – it is going to make a terrific film,” producer Don Murphy wrote. Waters has also written Batman Returns, Hudson Hawk, and Demolition Man (all movies older than most VA fans).
For those new to the series, here is the description for book one:
“St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger…
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.”
