Vampire Diaries Star Nina Dobrev on the Challenges of Season 4

Warning: There are Season 3 finale spoilers below! Stay away if you have yet to watch it!

Season 3 of The Vampire Diaries ended in a wonderfully awesome way – with Elena finally becoming a vampire! After consuming vampire blood thanks to Dr. Fell and then later drowning in the lake that took her parent’s lives, Elena died as well and returned as a vampire. It was fantastic. Next fall we’ll be seeing a new Elena, a vampiric Elena, and the starlet herself, Nina Dobrev, recently chatted about the challenges she will face in Season 4.

In a recently interview, Nina commented on what a challenge it will be to play two vampire characters, both Katherine and Elena. She will have to transform her human role into a vampire version without it confusing her existing role as the wicked vampire Katherine Pierce.

She said, “I’m vampire-squared now! I’m playing two vampires, so my challenge is going to be making them different, as I have thus far.”

“Before it was because one’s a vampire, one’s a human – it was easy – and now I have to try and make Elena a vampire.”

She continued, “I know that Elena’s going to struggle a lot with keeping her humanity. Up until now, that’s what she’s been struggling to hold on to. Her life is so supernatural, and now, without having a choice, she’s going to have to live with it for the rest of her life.”

Nina is also looking forward to exploring the love triangle between Elena, Stefan and Damon. Saying, “Finding out that she chose Stefan even though she actually met Damon first. . . there’s so much going on and there are so many emotions. It’s going to be a new beast going into Season 4.”

The Vampire Diaries will return with new episodes in the fall on The CW.

What are your thoughts on Elena as a vampire?
