What Does Your Twilight Baby Name Mean?

Parents have been naming their babies after celebrities for ages, so it’s no surprise that Twilight characters have topped the new baby name list.

According to the Social Security Administration’s annual list of most popular baby names, the name Isabella replaced Emma in the number one spot for most popular girl’s names. Shock shock. As for the number one boy name, it’s not Edward, it’s Jacob. But for the record, Jacob has been the number one boy name for the past eleven years. One name that is climbing the ranks though is Cullen (Edwards last name).

If you are considering naming your child after a Twilight character, or even your dog (“bad Edward, no biting, BAD”) then you may want to give the name meanings a look.

Isabella: This name has been used for centuries in many countries, it means “my God is a vow” or “consecrated to God.” The shortened version, Bella, means “beautiful.”

Edward: Means “appointed to protect.” Ahaha how perfect.

Cullen: The vampire’s last name means “chieftain.”

Jacob: This name means “Supplanter, held by the heel” because in the Bible, Jacob (later called Israel) was born holding his twin brother Esau’s heel.

Rosalie: This one is easy to figure out, it means “rose.”

Alice: Means “one of integrity” or “noble kind, of the noble sort.”

Emmett: This one means “all-containing, universal, strength.” The strength part works well for this character.

Jasper: This name means “treasure holder” or “spotted stone.” Haha.

Carlisle: This one means “brave” or simply, “from the Isle of Carl.”

Esme: Means “esteemed” or “loved” in Old French.

James: Another name that means “supplanter.”

Victoria: Means “conqueror.”

Laurent: Simply means “man from Laurentum.” Laurentum was a city in ancient Italy.

Jane: Means “God is gracious.”

Aro: A Finnish name that means “infertile ground” or “swampy area.”

Caius: Means “rejoice.”

Marcus: Means “from the god Mars.”

If you’re interested in looking up more names I suggest using more than one book/website, since they don’t always share the same definition.
