Why Men Shouldn’t Cheat

JunglePatasolaLoads of us women have been lied to and cheated on by our boyfriends or husbands, so today’s bit of vampire folklore is one that may put a grin on your face… that is, if you have a sick sense of humor, like me.

This myth takes us to Columbia where there is an old legend about a creature known as The Patasola, also known as “one foot.” The patasola is one of many creatures of South American folklore that involves a female monster of the jungle. This woman would appear to either men that cheat on their wives, hunters or loggers. When one of these men started to think about a woman she would emerge. The patasola shows herself in the form of a seductive beautiful woman, many times in the likeness of a loved one. She would then lure the man away from his partners deep into the jungle, and there she reveals her true self, a repulsive one-legged monster. She would then ferociously attack the man, devouring his flesh and sucking down his blood.

There is another tale similar to this, in Venezuela there is a mythical being known as La Sayona. She is a spirit that only appears to men that have cheated on their significant other. One version of this bit of folklore says that La Sayona was once a young woman named Melissa who was the most beautiful woman in a small village in the plains of Venezuela.  Melissa married a loving and caring man and together they had a baby boy.

She liked to bathe naked in a nearby river and one day a man from the village saw her. From that day on the creepy man kept watching her bathe, until one day she told him to leave her alone, he didn’t listen but instead told her that he came to warn her that her husband was having an affair with Melissa’s own mother. A very pissed off Melissa ran home to find her husband sleeping with their son in his arms. Absolutely blind with anger Melissa burned the house down, with her husband and child inside. She then went to her mother’s home and stabbed her in the stomach with a machete. The mother slowly bleed to death, but before she died she cursed Melissa saying that from then on she would have to avenge all woman by killing their unfaithful husbands. From then on Melissa was known as La Sayona.

In other versions of this story La Sayona appears to lonely men working in the jungle, like the patasola. When they are thinking about or talking about the woman they left back home or how they want a woman La Sayona would appear. Just like the patasola she would appear as a loved one or a beautiful stranger and then later on she would brutally kill the man.

So cheating men beware.
