Will Smith’s Vampire Role in ‘The Legend of Cain’

According to reports, Will Smith has attached himself to a new project called The Legend of Cain. Smith not only plans to produce the movie through his own Overbrook Entertainment, but he will also star in the title role of Cain. He will produce the film with Overbrook Entertainment partners Jada Pinkett Smith (his wife), James Lassiter, and Ken Stovitz.

The script was written by Caleeb Pinkett and Dan Knauf, with Andrea Berloff revising. The movie is said to be a re-telling of the biblical tale of the brothers Cain and Abel, but with a vampiric twist.

Quick Sunday school lesson! In the original story, Abel and Cain are the sons of Adam and Eve. The two brothers each give God offerings in attempt to earn his respect – first Cain the farmer gives God some fruit and then Abel the shepherd gives him the firstborn of his flock and their fat. God loved Abel’s offering and not Cain’s, this pissed Cain off. God then asked the angry Cain why he was so angry, which apparently just made Cain angrier because he stormed off and killed his brother Abel, making Cain the first murderer. Not a very vampiric story, but the part where God says to Cain, “And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand,” may have been what inspired the vampires.

Even though I have read countless stories about Cain being the first vampire, I have to admit that I am still excited about The Legend of Cain. You know that if Will Smith and his company are behind it it’s going to be a big badass movie.

There’s still no word on when the project will begin, but considering that Will Smith is getting ready to start filming Men in Black III in August, it may be a while before we get any more news on The Legends of Cain.
