2019: The Year of the Vampire?
Isn’t every year the year of the vampire, if you get right down to it? I know it is for me, and since you’re on this site, reading this article, I’d be willing to bet it is for you as well. But what about 2019 in particular will make it a banner year for vampires? For one thing, we’ve got two new top-tier vampire television series coming up. THE PASSAGE debuts on Fox in just a couple of weeks, and the TV version of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS will be airing on FX sometimes this spring. SWAMP THING will be arriving in May on the DC Universe streaming service, and it’s quite possible we’ll see some vampires show up sooner or later. (Anyone who has read the comics on which the series is based will know that Swamp Thing has tangled with vampires plenty of times. He always has the advantage because they can’t drink his “blood.”) The same is true for OCTOBER FACTION on Netflix and CARNIVAL ROW on Amazon Video.
NOS4A2 will be running on AMC beginning this summer. Carlton Cuse, former executive producer on THE STRAIN, has a news series coming out on Netflix, LOCKE AND KEY, which is also based on a comic series (which is itself based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft).
The big news, though, involves the new DRACULA series from Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, the creators of the BBC’s SHERLOCK. Production will be starting soon. Will we get to see the new series anytime this year?
