A Celebration of the Zombie

As I mentioned this week over at our sister site werewolves.com, I’ve been catching up on some of my viewing the past couple of days while I have a few free seconds. (I run a haunted attraction this time of year, and I just finished a show, and we’ve started rehearsal for another one, and I was in charge of directing an entry in a local playwrights competition, AND just had ANOTHER one of my shows performed, and the company staging it asked me to drive in to do a Q-and-A with the audience—October is INSANE busy for me every year, but this year in particular is BRUTAL. In a good way, of course.)

Anyway, I watched the first episode of Eli Roth’s documentary series THE HISTORY OF HORROR on AMC. If you saw it, you know it was devoted to that beloved, stinky cultural icon, the zombie. It was a decent retrospective, though I would have preferred if they’d spent a little more time talking about the classics like WHITE ZOMBIE and a little less time singing the praises of THE WALKING DEAD. (Variety, people!) At least they did give credit where credit is due, though, acknowledging that the zombie genre as it exists today would NOT exist if not for George Romero. They even dedicated the episode to him, which was nice.
