A Different Kind of Vampire Book

cassiepalmerThe ongoing Cassandra Palmer series by Karen Chance is an excellent vampire series that has everything a vampire fan wants in a vamp book. You’ve got a strong female lead, magic, mystery, passion, time travel, fast paced action and a totally unique story like none I have read thus far. One of the great things about this series is that unlike 99.9% of the vampire books out there, this isn’t a romance. Yea, it has a bit of romance and sex mixed into the story, but it is by no means a romance novel, instead it’s about a strong woman fighting for her freedom and the world. I know what some of you are thinking, “Ugh, not another tough, cocky vampire slayer story” but don’t worry, it’s not like that. Cassie may be strong but she doesn’t have that bitchy, prickly personality some female vampire leads have, in fact she is pretty sweet and innocent…but powerful.

The Cassandra Palmer series is currently 4 books long and follows, who else, Cassie. Cassie is a very powerful clairvoyant, someone who can see the future and communicate with the dead. She lives in a world full of vampires, but another cool thing about the books is that it’s not just vampires; you have ghosts, spirits, fairies, gods, mages, demons, incubi, witches and an assortment of every magical creature you can imagine. This may be a modern vampire story but it has a lot of old school fantasy in it, parts of the books remind me of old tales of dragons and knights, then it throws you back into the present world of mob bosses and casinos.

Each book is different than the other. While they each follow the same storyline each is totally different than the last. One book may have you in Vegas, the next will throw you into the world of Fey, and then suddenly you will be thrown in a time traveling story that puts you in France hundreds of years ago. Here is the plot of the first book

“Cassandra Palmer can see the future and communicate with spirits-talents that make her attractive to the dead and the undead.  The ghosts of the dead aren’t usually dangerous; they just like to talk…a lot. The undead are another matter.

Like any sensible girl, Cassie tries to avoid vampires.  But when the bloodsucking Mafioso she escaped three years ago finds Cassie again with vengeance on his mind, she’s forced to turn to the vampire Senate for protection. The undead senators won’t help her for nothing, and Cassie finds herself working with one of their most powerful members, a dangerously seductive master vampire-and the price he demands may be more than Cassie is willing to pay…”

And it’s not just me that loves the series, check out some of the high praise it has gotten from some awesome writers…

“A wonderfully entertaining romp with an engaging heroine.”-Kelley Armstrong.

“A tough, smart heroine and sexy-scary vampires.”-Patricia Briggs.

“One of my favorite reads.”-Charlaine Harris.

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).
