First things first. SPOILER ALERT! If you have yet to see the new movie and if you care how it ends, then stop reading now. As opposed to the way the film ended, where mother, father, and daughter are all now Deadites and are about to get their clammy undead hands on little Gage, Stephen King suggested the following: “I talked about an ending where Gage is walking up the middle of the road. We see dawn, and we hear a truck coming, and think, ‘Oh my God, he’s gonna get greased in the road. That’s how this is gonna end!’ Then at the last second, this woman pulls him out of the road and rescues him, and says, ‘Where’s your mommy and daddy?’ And that’s how you end the thing…I’m a sucker for a happy ending…But…that isn’t what they show.” Not quite, no.
As an aside, I found out the ending to the movie before I saw it, and quite unintentionally. The young dude working as ticket-taker at the theater where I went to view the film wasn’t exactly Johnny-on-the-spot. He told me to go ahead and go in, which I did, only the previous showing of the movie was still going on, and I managed to walk in at exactly the moment where the family of revenants approach the car. This wasn’t as big a deal as it could have been, since I kinda knew *something* like that was going to happen. If that dude is working the day I go to see AVENGERS: ENDGAME, though, I’m sending his ass in to make sure the movie is over before I enter the theater.
