When I first heard–er, read–about the CW’s plan to bring the Archie comics to life in a new, “dark” television series called RIVERDALE, I responded with a sneer. I thought it sounded stupid. If I’m being frank, I still do, and this despite the fact that RIVERDALE is now in its second season and has spawned a spinoff in the new CHLLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA (aka the Teenage Witch). Popularity with the masses means nothing in terms of quality, and it for dang sure doesn’t mean anything to me. But the sneaky bastard showrunners may have figured out a way of suckering me into watching the program, after all: cameos from Horror icons. For example, the recent appearance of Christine, the sentient car from the Stephen King novel and the movie of the same name. I love me some Christine, and apparently I’m not alone. She also had a brief appearance in last year’s disappointing THE DARK TOWER movie and will appear in the forthcoming READY PLAYER ONE.
So, RIVERDALE people, if you really wanna get me to watch your show, when are we gonna see Straker and Barlow from SALEM’S LOT put in an appearance? I mean, you already turned Jughead into a werewolf in the comics (don’t ask), so why not vampires?
