After Dark Film Original: Prowl

After Dark Films have a bit of a spotty reputation; they’ve produced and exposed films like Frontier(s) and Tooth and Nail, –and then they throw shit at us like Penny Dreadful, and Nightmare Man, –which, my boss thought was just the pinnacle of good horror that year. Sure, if you like movies that can’t even challenge the entertainment value of two kids with Down Syndrome in a fist fight. But on the whole, After Dark has definitely provided us with about an 8 out of 10 ratio of good horror flicks. But their record can’t be ignored, which is why I urge hardcore vampire horror fans to approach their new vampire-sounding horror flick with caution.

Sure, keep an open mind, expect great things, but don’t be too disappointed if it doesn’t deliver. According to the press release, this is the plot:

“Amber dreams of escaping her small town and persuades her friends to accompany her apartment-hunting in the big city. When their transportation breaks down, Amber and friends gratefully accept a ride in the back of a semi. But when the driver refuses to stop and they discover the cargo is cartons of blood, they panic. Soon, panic turns to terror when the truck disgorges into a dark, abandoned warehouse where blood-thirsty creatures learn to hunt human prey, which the friends realize is what they have now become…”

The logistics are kind of dumb; there’s nothing on the face of the earth other than maybe a loaded high caliber weapon that could convince me to ride in the back of a semi. The dangers of riding around in the cargo hold of an eighteen-wheeler are many, there’s no air conditioning, no lights, and so on. But you know, there’s got to be a premise, so I’ll try to stay open-minded.
