AMERICAN HORROR STORY Mashup
One could see it as the culmination of over a decade’s worth of planning and set-up. Alternately one could view it as a desperate attempt at damage control after last season’s lousy showing. AMERICA HORROR STORY: CULT stayed afloat for as long as it did thanks totally to Evan Peters’ mesmerizing performance. (Make that performances, plural, as he played several characters.) But man, that ending suuuuuuuuucked. As a result of them being unable to stick the landing, the entire season must then be viewed as a failure, the worst season of the series yet. Has AHS jumped the shark? Can they get it back on the tracks?
The forthcoming eighth season will be the promised crossover of MURDER HOUSE and COVEN. Which would normally be exciting. Taking into consideration that the showrunners had previously told us the crossover would NOT be happening in season eight, however, and coming on the heels of the misfire that was last season, it smacks of desperation. I’m sorry to say it, but it does. That doesn’t mean the new season can’t be excellent. But it’s going to have to be, to erase the memories of last season from the collective memory of its audience.
