American Idol + Vampires = Cheesy

So, American Idol contestants put on the fangs and contact lenses in a vampire themed commercial for Ford. Yea… the entire commercial left me cringing.

The whole 48 seconds I watched I kept wondering if they were purposely trying to be cheesy and campy, or if it was meant to be a badass vampire commercial.  Either way, it was lame. Then the questions started running through my mind – “why are vampires singing Believe by The Bravery,” “what does a red mustang have to do with vampires,” “damn, she’s hot as a vampire” and “why the hell am I still watching this?”

If you’re a big American Idol fan then you’ll probably love the commercial, so far it’s been pretty mixed, you either love it or hate it. Check it out:

This commercial brings my America’s Next Top Model post to mind – about the episode, titled America’s Next Top Vampire, where the contestants were asked to sit in a bathtub full of fake blood and pose with a male model dressed as a vampire – and how I mentioned that vampires have gone above and beyond simply being popular. There’s not even a word for how ridiculously mainstream they are now. I mean, if you see vampires in a modeling show and then in a Ford music video/commercial you know that vampires are fucking HUGE. It also means that people are going to start getting sick of them soon. Too much of a good thing is bad after all.

It’s quite sad if you think about it. On one hand, I absolutely love vampires and it kicks ass that there are so many others out there that feel the same way. But then you have all the publishers, companies and others doing everything they can to cash in on the trend, and as a result are ruining it for everyone. But that’s just me, what do you guys think?

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  6. Yeah, I watched American Idol and I saw this commercial and I thought it was beyond cheesey. It was garlicky! LOL. But seriously, that garlic pizza bit made me feel like they were making fun of Vampires. I know they probably weren’t, but it’s just how I felt about it. Although, the makeup and fangs were pretty cool looking.
