American Wasteland is One Helluva Bloody Ride

Coooomiiiiics! I came across another vampire comic that I had never read (Gasp!)! While scanning my comic app I discovered American Wasteland, a comic about a vampire apocalypse. For those who don’t know me (hey, I’m Amanda aka Moonlight)), I have a semi-disturbing love for stories of the apocalypse, particularly post-apocalypse. American Wasteland is set early on into the apocalypse and the free digital preview of the comic gives readers a look into that world.

Description:

“Truck driver Cletus McCoy only wants one thing: to get back home and save his Mama from a fate worse than death. But, in a world crumbling into a vampire apocalypse, that is easier said than done. Cletus will have to truck his way through an emerging nation of bloodthirsty monsters hell-bent on making him supper. Guns, guts, and a boy named Sumbitch are our hero’s only hope!”

Overall, I loved the artwork. I would have preferred if it was a little grungier and less cartoony since it is a horror comic about the apocalypse. I loved the look of the vampiric monsters though – very badass. But the people, meh, not too impressed. Like I said, too cartoony for my tastes.

Apocalypse! Love love apocalypse stories, especially ones about some kind of monstrous beings taking over the world. In American Wasteland it’s vampires who are a bit zombie-like that take over. The non-vampiric characters in the tale are the southern hillbilly type, which I usually HATE in a story, bleh, but I dug it in American Wasteland. It worked.

Overall, American Wasteland is a badass horror comic that’s definitely worth a read.

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).
