You know vampires are beyond popular when Tyra Banks has the wannabe models on her reality show America’s Next Top Model do a vampire photo shoot. Ooh yea, vampires just hit a whole new level of fame.
In the episode, titled America’s Next Top Vampire, the contestants were asked to sit in a bathtub full of fake blood and pose with a male model dressed as a cliché vampire (see the photos below).
The plan was for each girl to act like she had just been bitten and drained of her blood (why any vampire would let it all drip into a tub is beyond me, but then it is photo). The would-be models had to do this photo shoot blind and wore white-out contacts that wouldn’t allow them to see. The girls all looked amazing (and bloody) on the set, but when it came to the judging quite a few of the girls turned out to be huge failures and were ripped apart by the judges, and honestly, I agree with them.
I have a huge love for photography and vampires (duh) and have to admit that I was really disappointed by these photos. I have watched America’s Next Top Model many times (usually skipping to the end when the show the photos) and the pictures are amazing 9 times out of 10, but this time, meh, disappointing. The photography itself is wonderful (major props to photographer Sarah Silver); it was the models that ruined it for me. None of them make the shot look real, it’s all too posed and stiff, making the entire image look forced. But they are new models, and they were blind and covered in fake blood, so I’ll give them some slack for that.
Either way, seeing vampires on a show like America’s Next Top Model is a bit of a surprise, but like I said, it just shows how popular and mainstream they have become. It does make one worry though, are vampires too mainstream? Will people grow tired of them now? What do you guys think?

The composition of these photographs is amazing.
The subjects… not so much.
Too far. The trend has gone way too far.
I like #8, it has a sexy vibe to it, and that’s totally how I’d feel if a vampire held me hostage ;)
i really love the concept of this photography. . . .
