Ancient Vampire Joins ‘True Blood’ Season 5 Cast

Season 5 of HBO’s hit show True Blood won’t be here for a long while yet, but while we wait we have casting news to tide us over until next summer. I already covered one big new cast member, Lucy Griffiths, who will play the role of Eric’s vampire “sister” Nora. Now we have even bigger casting news! Italian actress Valentina Cervi is joining True Blood‘s upcoming fifth season as a series regular, and she’s playing the role of an ancient vampire who is sure to stir some trouble up.

The gorgeous Valentina will play Salome, an ancient vampire who is a world class seductress and fiercely intelligent. She’s also said to be a bit on the crazy side (what vampire in True Blood isn’t). Over 2000-years-old, Salome supposedly witnessed the crucifixion of Christ.

So far that is all that has been said about this new character, although, according to rumors she may be the next big bad evil on the show. I’m not too sure about that though, she may be a season regular, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to be one of the main characters.

So far the show has followed the books (albeit VERY loosely) and each season has represented a book. That would mean season 5 is the book Dead as a Doornail and according to the synopsis this book is all about Jason and the were-creatures that are being hunted down. Hmmm… Well, the show doesn’t really stick to the books and it tends to have 503945803 billion side-plots. So Salome will no doubt be part of one of many storylines. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

What do you think of Salome? Is she even in the books or is she yet another character the folks behind True Blood have created? Let me know in a comment below.

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).
