The show debuts on Fox on Monday, January 14th. I’m a bit concerned that it’s on Fox and not on a cable network. The ratings that a show has to garner when airing on one of the broadcast networks, the bar which it must overleap is set so high, that the odds are stacked against it. It’s not a singing competition or a doctor show, so there’s no guarantee that it’ll be around for long. Fox shot down FIREFLY, TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, DOLLHOUSE—need I go on? I just don’t have a good feeling about it. Shows like THE STRAIN or PENNY DREADFUL would never have lasted on Fox. Fox panders to the lowest common denominator; specialized fare gets cancelled without fanfare.
THE PASSAGE is based on a trilogy of novels written by Justin Cronin and is being produced by Ridley Scott. Check out some photos from the premiere and read synopses for the first three episodes here. It sure looks and sounds promising.
But this is Fox we’re talking about. I give it six weeks.
Anyway, here’s the trailer for the first season. And you can check out the official poster that was released back at the San Diego Comic Con above this here text.
