“I’ve always written to music and movies. It’s an important part of the process for me…”
I completely agree with this idea; I have always written with something going on in the background… though it usually has to be something foreign, or instrumental. I can’t think in two different voices, –my own voice and the audio often clash. My favorite sound to write to? Rain. Or, I open my sliding door and listen to the sound of Kansas City at night. Another great soundtrack, is the midnight shift at my old desk in the hotel.
In general, I love writing at night; the sounds and the atmosphere are perfect for composing your thoughts into something frightening. The author’s obvious pen name, “October Weeks”; she also uses the sounds around her, –though I don’t know if it’s really a good idea to write books about vampires while watching movies about vampires, over and over again. Mainly because the film is probably going to influence the story, and to me, that sounds a lot like a softer, more acceptable form of plagiarism.
