Bad News for True Blood Season 6

After the Season 5 finale of True Blood, fans can’t wait for Season 6. Jason is dead set on destroying vampires. Andy’s got four half human/half faerie newborns to take care of. There’s the big bad and bloody Bill. And Warlow will be outed. So much to look forward to… and a few things that will disappoint many Truebies. Unfortunately, Season 6 is off to a rocky start. First off, Alan Ball has stepped down as showrunner and will no longer be running True Blood. Second, Season 6 will be shorter than previous seasons.

As for the Alan Ball stepping down, this is old news. It was confirmed earlier this year that Ball will no longer call the shots for True Blood. Co-executive producer Mark Hudis is taking Alan Ball’s place as showrunner. Hudis has worked in the True Blood writers room with Ball since Season 4. Ball will still play a role on the team behind the show, but a very very small one. Many are saddened by this news, but personally, I am happy someone new is taking over. It just may be what the shows needs to improve.

Now for the real bad news – It was just announced that Season 6 will be 10 episodes long instead of the usual 12. They have trimmed off two whole episodes. In an (exit) interview with TV Guide, Ball dropped the lame news and claimed it was due to financial reasons and the impending birth of Anna Paquin’s twins in November. As a result, production for True Blood Season 6 will not begin until January 2013.

Ball also dropped some Season 6 hints in the interview, like Alcide not being totally over Sookie just yet, Charlaine Harris’ later books playing into the later season of the show, no one on the creative team knowing exactly what Bill or Lilith is just yet, and that Steve Newlin will be back.

They don’t know what Bill or Lilith are yet? WTF!? No wonder True Blood has so many lame ups and downs.

Anyway, that’s the big and bad news Truebies – no more Ball and Season 6 will be two episodes shorter.

What do you think of the bad news?

  5. I think season 6 should be the last season. Either that or they make some drastic changes. I got really tired of the vampire religion bullsh!t. They could’ve made that a really interesting aspect of the show. It just hasn’t been the same since season 2. There wasn’t any romance in this last season at all.

  6. I’m disappointed the show is to be shorter. If anything, I’d like to see a longer season. But what TB fan wouldn’t?

Like Catharine, I did get tired of the vampire religion stuff. Hopefully, it’s dead. I’m excited about a new writer(s).
