Bauhaus plus Twilight News

In 1978 a group of friends in Northampton, England decided to get together and form a band. The group of friends consisted of a young guitarist named Daniel Ash and brothers David J (bass) and Kevin Haskins (drums). Before the band could be considered complete they needed to find a lead singer. It took some time but Ash was eventually able to convince an old friend named Peter Murphy to join them. With the band complete they took on the name Bauhaus and quickly became one of the founding forces of Goth music alongside such bands as Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure and Joy Division.

With occult inspired lyrics and outlandish stage performances that often included the use of coffins, Bauhaus was a strong force in the Goth scene. In fact their debut single Bela Lugosi’s Dead would not only go on to become a Goth anthem, it was also featured in the classic vampire movie The Hunger starring David Bowie and Susan Sarandon. “White on white translucent black capes, back on the rack. Bela Lugosi’s dead. The bats have left the bell tower, The victims have been bled.” is chanted over the opening sequence.

Bauhaus was not without it’s troubles though and in July of 1983 the group disbanded just one week before the release of their fourth studio album Burning From the Inside. After the break-up Peter Murphy went on to develop a successful solo career while Daniel Ash and the Haskins brothers went on to form the equally successful Love and Rockets. Thankfully you just can’t keep a good band down and in true Goth fashion Bauhaus reunited in 1998 for a Resurrection Tour. They would reunite twice more over the years, once in 2005 for the Coachella Festival and again in the summer of 2006 to tour with Nine Inch Nails. They even released a new studio album in 2008, Go Away White and there were rumors of the band reuniting permanently. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case and as it stands today the band is still not back together. If there is one thing Bauhaus has taught us though it’s that the future is not written in stone and anything can happen.

In fact, speaking of anything being able to happen; believe it or not my dear Twilight fans Peter Murphy, the one and only shall be making a cameo appearance in Twilight: Eclipse coming to theaters June 30th. That’s right, the Goth Prince himself shall be playing a Cold One during a flashback scene. He shall also be walking the red carpet for the London premiere in Leicester Square at the Odeon Theatre so if you’re going to the London premiere don’t forget your camera!
