vampire games, vampire news, and real vampires

I remember reading about this one some years ago, and then all mention of it seemed to dissipate. I wondered what had happened to the project. Seems its been in gestation all this time, because BLOOD DRIVE will be debuting on SyFy on Wednesday June 14th. Set in a dystopian future, which is really the past—it’s 1999 in their universe, but in a post-apocalyptic world akin to the wasteland depicted in the MAD MAX movies—where disputes and other things get settled by gladiatorial automobile racing—if you’re the last car through the finish line, you die (Whoa, that’s harsh!)—the cars all run on BLOOD. Human blood specifically? I don’t know. Either way, it’s gotta be cheaper than gasoline, I reckon.

Shades of DEATH RACE, DEATH PROOF, and THE RUNNING MAN, as well as the aforementioned MAD MAX series, this one might not be great Art, but it should be a helluva lotta fun. It looks sexy and sleazy and gross and completely over-the-top, which any good grindhouse project should be. You can check out a trailer for the series here.

I hope Hot Wheels makes a series of BLOOD DRIVE vehicles to collect. That would be dope! If they don’t, I’ll have to buy some model paint and some generic Matchbox models and make my own.

There was also a movie called Blood Car with almost the exact same premise; look up the trailer on You Tube.
