Blood Ties’ Henry Fitzroy Coming Back to TV!

A few years ago the vampire TV series Blood Ties ran, unfortunately the show ended after only two seasons. The show, based on the book series by Tanya Huff was set in Toronto and followed Vicki Nelson (Christina Cox), a former cop who left the force to become a private investigator after she started to lose her eyesight. While working on a case she meets and teams up with the incredibly sexy 480-year-old vampire Henry Fitzroy (Kyle Schmid), who, if you know your history, is the illegitimate son of Henry VIII.  Together they solve an assortment of supernatural crimes, covering everything from ghosts and demons to shapeshifters and psychics.

Like I said, the show was canceled early on, BUT our beloved vampire Henry is coming back and I’m not talking reruns! You see, Tanya Huff didn’t just write the Blood series about Vicki and Henry, she also wrote The Smoke Trilogy, a spin-off about Henry and his tasty human friend Tony, and it’s these books that they‘re turning into a new show!

Smoke and Mirrors” is the title of the new series created by Kaleidoscope Entertainment and Freemantle Corporation. Since it’s still in the early stages there’s no word on who will star in the show, more importantly, who will play vampire Henry. Personally I can’t see anyone playing Henry other than Kyle Schmid, who totally nailed the role in Blood Ties.

As a huge fan of Blood Ties and Tanya Huff I am beyond excited for this show. Blood Ties came out before the current vampire craze which is one of the reasons it died out so fast, but Smoke and Mirrors is coming to life during the peak of vampire madness, so here’s hoping it will have a longer run.

If you haven’t seen Blood Ties I highly suggest checking it out! It’s sexy, funny and is full of bloodsucking goodness.

EDIT: So it appears Smoke and Mirrors is a bit more in development than I thought, my apologies. The show hasn’t been green lighted just yet, the developers are still looking for the funds to get the show going. But if all goes well then we’ll get our new vampire show!

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  6. Don’t count your vampires before they turn. It’s early yet, if you’ve read the press releases you will find that the production company staff is going to Cannes next week to try to secure funding. They don’t even have funding yet so this may be a while down the road. As a Henry Fitroy fan I’d love to see this just as much as the next fan but I’m not counting on it until funding is completed, contracts are signed and I see it on screeen.

  9. oh damn, I was pretty excited thinking Blood Ties was returning! =(

But I guess something’s better than nothing – though I can’t see anyone else playing Henry but Kyle
