Brad Pitt Opens Up About Miserable Role in ‘Interview with the Vampire’

Based on the dark and powerful novel by Anne Rice, Interview with the Vampire is one of the most popular of all vampire films. Over 10 years after its release Interview continues to be one of the most beloved of vampire movies with new fans falling in love with this beautifully heartbreaking tale every day. However, it appears that not everyone is as in love with this film as some of us, like Brad Pitt, the incredible actor who played the lead role of Louis de Pointe du Lac.

Brad Pitt recently did a rare three-and-a-half hour long interview for the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, and in it he chatted about everything from his family to the lowest moments in his life – like playing Louis in Interview with the Vampire.

In the interview Pitt is brutally honest about his own failures and low points. After being told he looks miserable in 1994’s Interview with The Vampire, he admitted: “I am miserable. Six months in the fucking dark. Contact lenses, makeup, I’m playing the bitch role…” Pitt said he was depressed by the colorless role and the wearisome London shoot: “One day, it broke me… I called David Geffen, who was a producer… I said, ‘David, I can’t do this anymore.  I can’t do it. How much will it take to get me out?’ And he goes, very calmly, ‘Forty million dollars.’”

Brad has mentioned in the past how dreary the role was but this is this first time I have heard him speak about it in such ruthless detail. I can definitely understand why he would feel this way, I have read in the past that he is the type of actor that completely submerges himself in a role and keeping that in mind, I can see him going to a very dark place playing Louis. In spite of his hatred for the role, Interview continues to be one of my all-time favorite movies and he has a huge part in that. Brad Pitt’s performance in the film was astounding, he captured Louis perfectly and helped make the film incredible. Hopefully Brad knows how great the movie is, even if he had a terrible time making it.

To read the full interview with Brad you’ll have to pick up the latest issue of EW.

Brad Pitt -is- in the bitch role, and he was typecast anyway. He just has the bitch persona; I’m surprised he could even give an interview on his own, without Angelina Jolie’s hand up his ass, to make him move his lips and seem like he’s really talking.
