‘Breaking Dawn: Part 1’ Hits DVD Just In Time For Valentine’s Day

…because what’s more romantic than watching a vampire wedding with your sweetie on the day of love? Well, lots of things, but I’m sure the news will please the Twi-hards amongst us. On that note, you guys only have just over a month until you can own your very own copy of Breaking Dawn: Part 1! The two-disc special edition DVD and Blu-ray are set to be released Saturday, February 11, 2012.

As some of you may have noticed, Breaking Dawn: Part 1 is being released on DVD a month earlier than the previous Twilight movies. There’s a reason for that, and it’s Valentine’s Day (see, it wasn’t a coincidence).

“We thought the fans would love to spend Valentine’s Day watching Bella and Edward’s wedding and honeymoon. It’s really the most romantic of all the Saga films,” said T.J. Moffett, Summit’s EVP of Home Entertainment Marketing.

That’s some clever marketing right there. I think I know what loads of ladies will be getting for their Valentine’s gift this year.

Both the DVD and Blu-ray are packed with an assortment of extra goodies, including fast forward features to your favorite Edward and Jacob scenes. Other features include Bella and Edward’s Wedding Video; audio commentary with director Bill Condon, and a 6-part “Making Of” documentary that goes behind the scenes of the most talked about film of 2011.

For those that need a refresher, in the highly anticipated fourth installment of The Twilight Saga, a marriage, honeymoon and the birth of a child bring unforeseen and shocking developments for Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) and those they love, including new complications with werewolf Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner).

Who here is picking up Breaking Dawn: Part 1 the day it’s released? Anyone planning on having a Twilight marathon on Valentine’s Day?

  3. I wish people would stop slaughtering twilight! The twilight movies are mainly for the people who have read the books, I have to admit all the movies come across as really cheesy but if you read the books they are a lot different from the films! The films I say are really for people who have read the books to anyone who hasn’t read them I can understand why it comes off stupid and doesn’t make sense.
Besides we wouldn’t have the vampire diaries if it wasn’t for twilight!

    1. Yeah, you’re totally wrong. The Vampire Diaries came out LONG before Twilight. They came out in 1991, Twilight came out in 2005. So what you just said is a giant load of nonsense.
Also, I have read the books, and I think both the books and movies are ridiculous. But that’s just me. To each their own.

  4. I revel in the irony of people thinking a gift of the “Breaking Dawn, Part 1” DVD would be romantic, in spite of the fact that everything goes downhill fast for Bella once she finds out she’s pregnant with a dhampir (half-vampire, half human) child sucking her dry from the inside out.
[sarcasm font] Definitely the stuff of which honeymoon dreams are made. [/sarcasm font]

Not only was the movie’s “birth scene” very faithful to the novel’s Book Two, Jacob, Chapter 18, “There Are No Words For This” (pages 348-360), the movie ends precisely at the last sentence of the novel’s Page 386.

Of the films’ directors, Catherine Hardwicke (“Twilight”, 2008) took the most liberties with her source material, and I think her film was better than the book because of it. It may have even been truer to Meyer’s original vision of the story than Meyer’s own writing, mainly because Hardwicke wasn’t boat-anchored by having to portray everything from Bella’s infamous “Edward-colored glasses” point of view.
