Yay Andrew! That’s right, Andrew is another favorite of mine, he was HILARIOUS! Love.
Anyway, Andrew grew up in Sunnydale and was the younger brother of the well known Tucker Wells (he trained a pack of hellhounds to attack the senior prom because he couldn’t find a date). Being the nerd he was, Andrew was the victim of a lot of bullying in school, but luckily he had a few close friends that were outcasts too, Warren and Jonathan.
Inspired by his big brother, Andrew learned to summon and control demons and sent a bunch of flying monkey demons to attack the school’s production of Romeo and Juliet… just because. Buffy and the other Scoobies have no memory of this, but Andrew, Warren, and Jonathan went on to remember it fondly.
Two years after the high school was destroyed, Andrew, Warren and Jonathan formed The Trio, a supervillain group committed to taking over Sunnydale. Ba ba buuum. Together, they engaged in petty crime, like robbing banks and museums. Andrew was an important member in the group due to his ability to summon demons. Since Buffy was the protector of Sunnydale, the Trio secretly tested her skills to collect information – Andrew’s test involved demons of course.
But the Trio began to fall apart when they magically turned Warren’s ex, Katrina, into a willing sex slave. Katrina eventually came to her senses and accused them of rape, so Warren killed her to stop her from leaving. Andrew helped cover up Katrina’s murder by summoning demons and he was pretty happy that they pulled the cover-up off. However, Buffy learned the truth and began to investigate the Trio. This is when Warren and Andrew began plotting together against Jonathan, hoping to put the blame on him for their bad deeds. But of course, Buffy put a stop to their plan. Warren then left Andrew and Jonathan to be arrested, and Andrew made it clear to Jonathan that Warren wasn’t coming back for them.
Trying to get back at Buffy, Warren accidentally murdered Tara. As we all remember, Willow then hunted him down and skinned him alive for killing her beloved. She planned a similar fate for Andrew and Jonathan, but the Scoobies managed to protect the boys long enough for them to escape to Mexico.
While living in Mexico with Jonathan, Andrew was approached by the First Evil. In the guise of Warren, the First convinced Andrew to open the Seal of Danzalthar underneath the newly built Sunnydale High. Once he got back to Sunnydale, Andrew murdered Jonathan in an attempt to open the seal, but Buffy discovered him and held him hostage in her house. At first, the Scoobies couldn’t stand Andrew because of all he had done – you know, killing Jonathan, his part in the Trio, and his annoying habits.
But in spite of the hate, he tried to make himself useful around the house by replacing Buffy’s broken microwave, baking, and keeping a “big board” tracking the First. Then, camera in hand, he began to document the Scooby Gang’s adventures for future generations. Xander, Anya, Spike and Dawn were all happy to let him interview them, but Buffy was pissed off by his attempt to turn everything into a story and forced him to face up to the gravity of his actions. Andrew finally got serious and accepted responsibility for Jonathan’s murder, and his guilty tears put an end to the supernatural chaos caused by the Seal of Danzalthar.
To redeem himself, he joined the Scoobies in the big battle at the Hellmouth, where he was partnered with Anya against an army of Turok-Han Vampires and Bringers. He was pretty stunned when he survived the epic fight, and comforted Xander over Anya’s death by telling him she died saving his life.
Finally one of the good guys, Andrew then became a Watcher and helped out all of the newborn Slayers of the world. The rest of Andrew’s story is found in Angel’s show and of course, in the Buffy comic.
