The show may have ended years ago, but Buffy the Vampire Slayer continues to have a massive fan base, and with the rise of vampire popularity Buffy is back and bigger than ever!
“In every generation there is a Chosen One. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the Slayer.”
At the young age of fifteen, Buffy Summers started having violent dreams about women from different periods of history slaying monsters. One day, she was approached by Merrick, a man who revealed her destiny as the Chosen One and became her first Watcher. Shortly after, Merrick was killed, and due to her Slayer attempts, Buffy managed to burn down her high school gym. Buffy and her mother Joyce then moved to Sunnydale.
Once enrolled in Sunnydale High School, the school librarian, Giles, informed Buffy that he was her new Watcher, and she was thrown full forced into the Slayer world. But luckily she did make some amazing friends – the Scooby Gang. The gang started with Willow, Xander, Cordelia (not exactly friendly) and Oz. All of her close friends knew she was the Slayer and helped her out. Even Buffy’s mom eventually learns what Buffy is.
One of the biggest moments in the show was when Buffy fell in love with Angel, a vampire cursed with a soul. It ended very badly when Angel lost his soul, turning him back into his evil self. They did get back together once his soul was restored, but Angel soon realized that it would be for the best if he left town and Buffy.
Many monsters and deaths later, Buffy goes to college. During her freshman year at UC Sunnydale, Buffy roomed with Willow and developed a relationship with military monster hunting Riley Finn. After a few months together, Riley left Buffy and Sunnydale, feeling that Buffy didn’t need or love him.
During her sophomore year at college, Buffy went through many family crises — first she discovered that her 14 year-old sister Dawn (introduced in Season 5) isn’t actually her sister, but is a magical “Key” turned into human form and placed into Buffy’s life (false memories included) so that Buffy could protect her. Buffy’s mother then had a brain tumor removed, only to later die from an aneurysm. Buffy dropped out of college to take care of Dawn. In the final fight against Glory, a hellgoddess seeking to use the Key, Buffy sacrificed her life (again) to save Dawn and the world. A few months later, Willow brings Buffy back from the dead using dark magic. Unfortunately, Buffy isn’t her normal self when she is brought back. She had been at peace in a heaven, and being ripped out and shoved back onto earth was extremely hard on her. It was at this time that Buffy secretly took up a sexual (and violent) relationship with vampire Spike. It didn’t go well at all.
Eventually the biggest of all Buffy battles takes place. Buffy, the Scoobies and countless newly created Slayers take on the First Evil. Of course, they win and save the world… destroying Sunnydale in the process.
Favorite Buffy quotes!
“Are you crazy? You just don’t sneak up on people in a graveyard. You make noise when you walk, you stomp, or… yodel.”
“Oh, make a move. Please. I’m dying for a good slay.”
“You’re a vampire. Oh, I’m sorry. Was that an offensive term? Should I say undead American?”
Buffy: “I’m gonna try and vent a little hormonal angst by going out there and killing a Lagos, whatever that is.”
Angel: “Lagos?”
Buffy: “Some demon looking for some all-powerful thingimibob and I gotta stop him before he unleashes unholy havoc, and it’s another Tuesday night in Sunnydale.”
[singing] “There was no pain, no fear, no doubt, till they pulled me out of heaven. So that’s my refrain. I live in hell ’cause I’ve been expelled from heaven. I think I was in heaven. So give me something to sing about. Please give me something.”
Buffy: So let me get this straight. You’re…Dracula. The guy. The Count.”
Dracula: I am.
Buffy: And you’re sure this isn’t just some fanboy thing? ‘Cause I’ve fought more than a couple of pimply overweight vamps that called themselves Lestat.
“That much quality time with my mom would probably lead to some quality matricide.”
Buffy: So then Kathy’s like, “It’s share time.” And I’m like, “Oh, yeah? Share this.”
[she punches the air a few times]
Oz: So either you hit her, or you did your wacky mime routine for her.
Buffy: Well, I didn’t do either, actually. But she deserved it, don’t you think?
Oz: Nobody deserves mime, Buffy.
